The guy who gained all those certifcates said "it cost you nothing"
Well it cost you 7 years pal!!
It's also quite wrong that theres people from big name compaines looking to recruite ex prisoners!... when theres plenty of poeople who haven't been to jail who are in need of a job!!

what made it even more of a farce was the chef that was hired by the marriot hotel chain did a runner less than a month into the job and has disappeared
I have a job and pay tax, national insurance, VAT on purchases etc.
Would someone be so kind as to tell me where I can get a PlayStation and TV license for £1 a week each.
I assume taxpayers are rewarded for not being prison scum so I must have missed the paperwork to fill in.
cheers!
Just think what could happen though if those little bribes weren't in place. That job's hard enough as it is without hundreds of bored to death prisoners on top.

Wonder if he took a few towels like most of the guests.

If they're in a small cell with a 40 watt bulb for 23.5 hours a day then it's not an issue.

Without those little carrots - it would be hell for the staff in there let alone the prisoners. They would have little to lose, fighting with each other and plotting against the staff and so-on; 1990 all-over again.

Let himself down on that along with the Catering Manager who had total faith in him.
Didn't it say David Charlton used to work in the DSS and wanted to go on benefits? Now he seems to want to be a long term prisoner.
Thats right. So at one time not only did he hold down a full time job, he must have had some level of self respect. Now he trashes every cell he's put into, defecates and urinates all over everything, tells everyone who tries to help to f*ck off, and claims he cannot walk so gets pushed around in a wheelchair (yet managed to launch himself at Prison Officers).
Each time they remove him from his filthy pit, a prisoner has to go in and clean up his mess. That's wrong.
They should put him in a cell with no fittings and no mattress. Each time he defecates and urinates the place, just open the door, chuck a few gallons of disinfectant in, then blast the place (including him) with a fire hose. Only other alternative is force him to clean his own mess up but we are so tied up in this batty 'duty of care', that's never going to happen.
Re: TVs and Playstations in cells, isnt it well documented that having a TV in your bedroom isn't good for people as it can lead to insomnia. Hardly encouraging healthy habits.

Why the hell do they go in and clean after that slob? Tell you what, If I was in charge he would stay in there until he did it himself, human rights or not. One cheeky so and so. I pity the people who do have to clean after him. It's disgusting he is allowed to get away with it.
As for the man who was given job at the Marriot then went on the run, I have no sympathy for him , he deserves all he gets!
My blood was at boiling point last night!

I guess insomnia isn't at the top of the list of worries when you are stuck inside there.

Yes, I saw that at the end. I have to say I really wanted him to get a job and go straight but TBH he needed to be taught more than just an NVQ in cookery.
He needed to be taught how to moderate his language. He was effing & blinding in earshot of prospective employers and the cameras. I expect he knows no better but he should be taught that there are times and places. Just like a big kid really!

There was a bit in the paper a month or so ago about a hotel chain at York who had 3 female murderers working for them.
It's just not fair - I know several young adults with moderate learning difficulties who are desperate for some sort of work and they get no help at all. Nobody wants to know despite them all doing 2 or 3 voluntary (unpaid) jobs for charities.

Actually all this program showed me was that most prisoners are idiots and deserve to be in prison. Look at the guy doing a runner after he gave that speech about his last chance and not blowing it.
Prisoners dont deserve anything. There are far better people on the outside who need help.

Playstations are purchased at full cost via the prison shop and are only available to enhanced prisoners who are deemed trustworthy. The weekly wage for prisoners who work in the kitchen, laundry, cleaning, library, tea boy etc earn £10 per week so the weekly £1 TV rental is 10% of their "income".

The people who have to deal with him deserve medals.

I had a feeling that was going to happen, as he'd have to actually work for a living.

I agree it did!
That annoyed the hell out of me as well.

I know. Imagine how David Charlton would cope in there? Bet he would suddenly be able to walk again...

Couldn't agree more.
