The Dixons article refers to them possibly closing their UK business. Now, is that their web-based Dixons site (since they don't have any more high street stores), or does it include Currys & PC World?
Dixons Retail (formerly DSG International) is the company that trades as Currys, PC World, Dixons and Knowhow in the UK.
The article doesn't actually say there is any suggestion of them ceasing to trade in the UK, it is quoting another company who doesn't think that Dixons' business is successful.
Its the landlords that are mostly to blame. Charging extremely high rent in conditions that are unrealistic to justify such prices.
ITYM "charging the rents which the tenants signed up to" - the rents are, relatively speaking, fixed costs, so I don't see why it's the landlords' fault any more than that of the other creditors. The main problem is that the turnover of the shops has gone down.
Unfortunately for them, currys.digital and PC World are still losing money hand over fist. That's why Dixon's group are struggling to hold onto their credit lines.
DSG won't be around in 3 years time. Best Buy will have blown them out of the water.
What a loss to the High Street they'll be if they do close. Where will people go if they want incorrect advice from poorly trained sales and 'technical' staff, whose only real aim is to sell you an over-priced extended warranty? Call me old-fashioned, but you just don't get that sort of service on-line.
High Street ? what high street, the way things are going the High Street will soon consist of a few charity shops, fast food chains, overpriced coffee shops , several branches of the same bank and Tescos .

And Brighthouse, of course! The electrical store for fiscally-unaware people who don't value their kneecaps.
Thirty years ago Comet were a good store, staff new their products. These days its just so easy to order online and wait for the delivery, often the next working day.

Ooh I forgot about that upmarket little emporium, the high streets answer to Fortnum and Mason, not.
