As long as you look nice in a suit and holding a gun, you don't need to show any form of decent acting ability. So Tom Hardy would be perfect for the role, along with his usual grunting.

I can’t believe people still think Idris could be Bond. Why would they hire a 50 year old actor to pick up the franchise? It doesn’t make sense.

They're both too old. You need an actor in his thirties so he can continue in the role for a while without looking geriatric at the end.

Referenced at the end of the Express article but Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the new favourite after reports he has had a screen test for the role.

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/20563304/aaron-taylor-johnson-james-bond/

He seems a more likely choice than the usual names mentioned. In his early thirties, previous experience in action roles but not an A-lister, a not dissimilar career to Daniel Craig before he was cast.

They want an actor who'll stick around for 5 movies and that's a decade's commitment so they'll be looking for someone aged around 40.

Tom Hardy at 45 would be at the upper limit.

Idris Elba is already 50, almost the same age as Daniel Craig when he shot his last Bond film, so that ship has sailed.

James Norton is 37, a perfect age, and his name often comes up in these discussions.

Tom Hiddleston at 41 could be a contender.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson at 32 would be a younger Bond. He seems to be the bookies favourite,

Henry Cavill at 39 also strongly backed as is Regé-Jean Page at 34.

I do think that Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender or Idris Elba could've played the role when they were younger, but I think someone like Aaron Taylor-Johnson would now make more sense.

Robert Pattinson would've also been a good choice, but he might not play the part because he's now playing Batman.

    H. Cavill and Tom Hiddleston would be too expensive off the bat. Cavill was just paid $500,000 to film two cameos as Superman, he- or his management- would want an eye watering amount to play Bond.

I dunno. He’s no longer going to be playing Superman and playing Bond would be a huge boost for him.

I see Henry Cavill's odds have significantly dropped; likely to do with the fact that he's dropped both Superman and Geralt in about the space of a month.

I just want to know if they are going to ignore the ending of No Time to Die and go for a complete re-boot.

And will they recast M, Q & Moneypenny. Or bring back Blofeld and Leiter.

I suspect they might given Daniel Craig's recent comments, but that will just turn Bond into Batman/Spider-Man with the same story starting from scratch every time the role is re-cast.

Of course they are. It’s a new story and new era every time the role is recast. They simply bring back elements from previous films and retain other cast members throughout eras.

Do you think that when Roger Moore visited Tracy’s grave in “For Your Eyes Only” that he was remembering being George Lazenby?

We’re headed for another reset for a new era. They all are. I just don’t think previous ones have been specifically defined as the DC era was.

Hiddleston would work for food. Where do you get the notion he'd be expensive? Once he wore that Taylor Swift t-shirt he was out of the running.

As regards money - Did Craig work cheap?

There will not be a black Bond.

I think I'd go for Sam Huegan, going back to a Scottish Bond, although he's 42 so you wouldn't have a long run before you needed to change again.

I do wonder what's taking them so long, I thought given NTTD had been so delayed they'd have sorted the next era out in the interim.

Hopefully they can change the scriptwriters as well as the lead actor. I don't rate Purvis & Wade at all. Casino Royale was great as they had a Fleming original to work from but subsequent movies have just sloppily lurched from one big action sequence to the next. A "secret" agent shouldn't be chasing around famous foreign locations in flashy cars, causing millions of pounds worth of damage and leaving a trail of injured or dead bystanders. MI6 would be long bankrupt paying compensation for all that.

Daddy Bezos would presumably need input.

But that's what the Bond films have always been. Its not a recent concept!

Henry Cavill for me, given that he's no longer playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe following the decision to relaunch the shared universe with a revised cast and so on.

Too well known and expensive, plus I can't see Eon picking a cast-off from another franchise, it would make playing James Bond look like a consolation prize.

Expensive?!?!?? Craig milked Wilson and Babs for all he could get. Nobody will get a bigger Bond payday than he did.

Cavill would've had the role over DC if he'd been in better shape back in the day. Just like when Brosnan got his second chance, the 007 mantle should rightfully pass to Cavill.
