Car insurance prices!

My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of this month.
I'm 48 years old, 14 years no claims bonus and had my licence for 30 years.
No points or convictions.
Two years ago I paid £380 for the year. Last year I paid £518. All at the same address.
While waiting for my renewal offer I did the usual compare website quotes.
They are coming back at around £1000-£1300!
Nothing has changed for me so I'm stumped at the quotes.
Has anyone experienced this lately?
I'm seriously considering selling my car and finding something cheaper.

Put "why has car insurance gone up" into you preferred search engine.
Thanks for that.
Found several articles including this one - https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/why-car-insurance-prices-gone-up-b1087100.html
Pretty depressing news. I get my renewal offer in 2 days and suspect it will be around £1000.
57 year old male. Single. Retired. Toyota Corolla 1.8 kept in a locked garage overnight. Lives in a safe, low crime town. Last year was £328. This year my insurer quoted me £480. Getting quotes from other insurers came out around £350. So I called my current insurer and eventually got it dropped down to £370. I decided to accept that as it saves the hassle of switching insurers. But I just 'love' the way they ended up discounting by over a hundred quid.
Mine went up about 20% even though the most high risk driver (my 20 year old) has an extra years NCB on his car. Called up the insurer and within 5 minutes they dropped it 15%. Shame you have to call them to get the 'best' price.
Yes, it’s like if you’ve just taken £110 off straight away on the phone, why not just quote me that in the first bloody place! Save everyone time and hassle.
Technology _love, have you tried using confused.com to try to get the best prices?
I did this for my dad a few months ago, who has been driving for 50+ years, his went up double, managed to get a quote on confused.com which was only £20/30 a year more than he was paying before.
Maybe for some people but mine still went up despite my trying every insurer out there.
BIB - yes definitely. And its on these sites I'm getting around £1200. Direct Line came back at £1545. Hastings Direct comes in at £980 but only if they fit a device to my car. £500-£700 increase when nothing has changed is just crazy.
Same for me. Confused, comparethemarket, moneysupermarket,go compare.......all over £1000 quotes.
It does seem crazy. Increases like this are only going to lead to more people driving without insurance, which in turn will lead to ever increasing prices. A friend is currently considering whether to just go with 3rd party, fire and theft rather than fully comp because his increase is so eye watering.

Thought one of the reasons being touted for the rise in premiums, which that article doesn't mention, is the increase in ownership of electric vehicles and the envisaged tendency to write off a vehicle if there is any danger of the battery pack being damaged. Whether there is any truth in that or not, I don't know.
Ok that is very unfortunate then, nothing you can do but pay it, if you want a car
To be honest I didn't really think it was widely available anymore but I did notice Direct Line (I think) advertising it the other day.
Esure's answer was 'do you want it or not' They were very dismissive.
I got it cheaper elsewhere but not by very much.
I would have gave them some in return! “Well if your competitors are offering cheaper prices, for the same amount of cover and benefits, why would I want it? Goodbye” 😂lol
If I didn't give up my car in 2022, I definitely would now. Because no way I'd pay that much. I was paying around £250 a year.
I was tempted. 😀
I even found it cheaper on a comparison site offered by Esure themselves. Armed with the reference number to that quote I thought they'd match it. But nope. They wouldn't budge, so I bid them farewell.
Sadly I think you are correct. I get my renewal offer tomorrow and will post back what it is.
