It's weird, I'd kinda forgotten about how much I loved Warren & Jason Hughes until he was in Mine All Mine (made even better I was living in Swansea at the time it was being filmed & shown) & then of course Midsomer Murders.
But today finally got "The Flint Street Nativity" on DVD (so knowing my luck ITV will finally repeat it this year!) & to my surprise there he was playing the lad playing Joseph..finally enough the lad's name's Warren too..
It's strange considering the cult status This Life had, that the actresses that played Millie & Anna haven't had the succes that the guys have..which is a shame
I think Daniela Nardini has had some great career highs since. She's done loads of theatre, and her TV appearances always get goot publicity. None of them will ever shake off This Life, though. Ramon Tikaram (Ferdy) said recently that TL had been a real millstone round his career.
I have caught a few bits of the reruns, though i have the whole lot on video. It makes me feel 20yrs old all over again. It was part of the background to my university days. All the sex, drink, drugs and life changing decisions were absolutely cutting edge and real at the time, and it's not dated that much. if ever I hear Portishead, I get shivers up the spine.
The early episodes are a bit slower than the later ones, but the whole series has so much energy and oomph!
As Milly, Amita Dhiri is perfect. I have utmost sympathy for her.
By the end of the series, she has almost become a Lady Macbeth figure. Her broken heart, rocky career and ruined life are so tragic, I think, as she struggles to pull herself together and save her relationship.
This Life also has one of the finest final episodes of any TV show. Full of shocks, twists, surprises, unexpected nasties and, of course, that incredible sequence on the dancefloor at the end. How many of us were cheering on a character that we may not have liked until then?
I'm wondering how I'm going to manage after Dec 4th when my nightly fix will be over. (Still cant find a date for the Reunion special )
It's because for many it takes us back to a good time of our lives plus it was brilliantly cast and written that it's become "the" TV series that defines us.
I loved it the first time round and I'm enjoying wallowing in nostalgia with the repeats this time round.
First time it was on, I remember thinking Milly was a bit of a witch to Egg. Now as I'm all grown up, I have far more sympathy for her and can see him more as a complete pain in the neck. Self-indulgent and seeming to think that the world owes him something.
Funny that
Anna and Miles are both still as good as ever. That scene where Miles was laughing at Warren said on the phone to Ferdy's Dad had me in absolute stitches. Miles was in absolute hysterics and it really amused me.
I'm looking forward to the reunion show.
That is so true. I watched this the first time at around the age of 17/18 and thought the same thing about him and her. I also couldn't stand Miles.
I'm watching it now at 27 and I have totally changed who I think is in the right and wrong. I can also now see Mile's vulnerability.
ooh cant wait! be interesting to see if the characters will have all stayed in touch or whether they all meet up for something
i think the press release said the story revolves around
them meeting up at Ferdy's funeral
.
have only caught a couple of the repeats, but loved it when it was first on too. depending on how the special goes, it might be good to have some more new ones - they were great characters after all, and was definitely a series that didn't outstay it's welcome like so many do.
I've been wattching both series on DVD as I missed a few on the TV and just *had* to watch them all in order.
Last night I got to the one where the police call round when Egg et al are smoking a joint and Egg gets confused about how much sugar to put in which cup: "One with one and one with none."
Was cackling with laughter. Had totally forgotten this bit and it's one of the funniest bits of the series!
I've kind of forgotten the end of sieres two: all I can recall is:
Miles' wedding: the whole will they won't they thing, and someone punching someone else (Milly and Rachel?) at the party, and someone collapsing over the buffet? And then Warren coming back???
Not sure if that's true or not tho. All very hazy back then

Loved this bit was hilarious. When he's listening at the door and Miles is going mad at him because he can't stop laughing :D:D
I used to think Milly was horrible to Rachel first-time around I now think Rachel is very annoying and manipulating.
I've never enjoyed watching a repeat of a series as much as This Life. Love the 90's soundtrack on it as well. Anyone know the 'chill out' song playing when they were smoking weed in the front room? I think it was used to promote BBC2's 'wierd nights' at the time.

Absolutely right
(but Milly's punch was brilliant and there was a bit more revelations as well!!)
But, as another poster said, it has one of the best, most unexpected endings ever.
Ah, its a great series, but I've missed so many of them because they are on too late at night! When is the box set coming out, because I'm gonna have to buy it!
Ah thank-you. You see, I'm too lazy to read through 3 pages!
I will have to have a butcher's on amazon for the dvd then!
I got mine on Amazon for £30 (series 1 and 2). I reckon they're pretty cheap now because they *must* be releasing one with the special episode later on, which will no doubt be a lot more… I couldn't wait tho!
Rubbish that This Life has been shifted backwards for the cricket. I've been just about managing to stay awake for Episode 1 each night and usually falling asleep somewhere in middle of Episode 2, but won't be able to watch it now the cricket's on
You lot will have to post and let me know when the final episode of Series 2 is on, i'm deffo staying up for that no matter what. Loooooved it first time around. Remember the gloves.....
I just love it. And it is round 3 for me. It has really dated well too..though strange not seeing young professionals glued to mobiles ,and to be smoking their lungs out everywhere.
What happened to actors that were Millie, Ferdie ,Miles, Warren and Anna.?
God but Millie is anal, reminds me of a solictor I worked with back in 1992 or so.!!!!

So you obviously know what Andrew Lincoln's up to then??!
Jack Davenport (Miles) is in the Pirate Of The Carribean movies with Mr Johnny Depp
The actress that plays Anna, has done a lot of stage work
Jason Hughes (Warren) was in the Flint Street Nativity, Mine All Mine (a ITV series with Griff Rhys Jones based in Swansea) & is currently Barnaby's sidekick in Midsomer Murders.

oh, and when is the one-off going to be on?
A previous poster has said that the reunion episode (which is 90 minutes) is on New Years Day.
I hope they release the reunion episode on DVD too...

God but Millie is anal, reminds me of a solictor I worked with back in 1992 or so.!!!!
Madge, I'm not revealing anymore. You'll have to watch!!
Which, translated, means I haven't watched the videos for about 3 years and cant remember it all.
So you obviously know what Andrew Lincoln's up to then??!
