Hi, just wanted the low down on one of these cars as we are thinking about buying one.
I have a Mercedes ML430 at the mo which is top of the range with everything extra from DVD Player, Bluetooth handsfree kit, Sat Nav, Cruise Control.......
But we want something a bit easier on our pocket and need to downsize. Can you tell me what sort of range you get on fuel, whats the insurance premiums like, repair bills, etc
Would you buy another one? is it something you would avoid in future?
many thanks

Spares look expensive but as yet I have only used consumables. I get high 40 mpg but I do use the midrange poke a lot.
Insurance fully comp £250 p.a.
Things to watch out for are the bushes on the front wishbones which can delaminate, Had mine replaced under warrantee 4 years ago. If they go, replace with polyurethane ones.
The only other problem has been the light control stalk.
For some stupid reason they designed it so that the front fogs default to on if the contacts get loose and the lights are not on a relay and bypass the ignition, which could kill the battery.
Rather than replace the stalk, I just disconnected the front fogs.
Surprisingly quick, the diesel has tons of torque and the high walled tyres makes for a comfortable ride and you keep your fillings on Britain's third world roads.
Also, it didn't do very well on the NCAP safety ratings.
Will try to find a quote for the above though ...
Petrol consumption looks great too, we get around 19/20mpg at the mo lol, how are they for room space in the back? I have a 3yr old in a carseat, and two teenage daughters, although we hardly ever all go out together anyway. Boot size looks reasonable in the pics too.
I have found one near to me "Y" reg with 60,000 miles FSH for £4,050.00 which I think is a good price its for 2.0ltr.
Try other such sites as well (top gear, which, etc etc)
EDIT - He quotes 28mpg ... maybe I imagined the 20mpg comment? Not sure. Sorry.
The petrol ones are under powered. The diesel CRD has the Merc 2.2 turbo diesel engine with about 230 lb ft of torque.
Lots of room in the back and the high stance makes them easy to get in and out of. As for looks, Like Marmite, you either like it or loath it. It was drawn by a human being and is not another boring eurobox.
Apparently they are referred to as Marmite, you either love them or hate them. I am swaying more towards the hate, but OH thinks they look cool.
Thanks for making me sway even more towards the hate lol.
Just done a nice 30 min drive in the merc today and decided to set the computer, I got 13mpg and didnt drive over 60 once.
I prefer either Peugoet 306 GLX or a Focus Zetec personally.
lol, we posted same time and both mentioned Marmite!!!!
