Who else finds BBC Radio 2 a complete no-go zone on a Sunday? The only Sunday Radio 2 presenter I do like is Johnnie Walker. I occasionally tune into Pick of the Pops - only when the programme isn't featuring the damn 60s and 70s.
Sunday Love Songs has been done to death. How about axing it and replacing with Ed Stewart hosting a general request show?
I'm looking forward to the arrival of Michael Ball to Sunday mornings. Hopefully, he will feature a much better playlist. It's about time those depressing Frank Sinatra and jazz ballads were laid to rest.
As for Elaine Paige, no thanks. She's the equivalent to the dire Sarah Kennedy. Why on earth Lesley Douglas brought Paige to Radio 2 is beyond me. She's been on Radio 2 since September 2004 yet still sounds amateurish and unprofessional. I also think stage and screen should be broadcast in the evening, not on a Sunday lunchtime.
Radio 2 from 6.30pm Sundays seriously scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Melodies for You, Sunday Half Hour, Russell Davies, Malcolm Laycock and David Jacobs are the reasons why Sunday night Radio 2 is so boring, depressing and prehistoric. In fact, it's the worst night of the week.
There is certainly a lot of room for improvement for Sunday Radio 2, especially in the evenings.

It is quite boring, the weekday you know most of the Dj's and what they will do but on Sunday...the station dies.
The weekend schedule, in particular Sundays, needs a major overhaul. Most of the time Radio 2 sounds pretty decent in the evenings. Sadly, Friday and Sunday nights drag the station back to the dark ages.

Anyway, R2 on a Sunday has always been aimed at a very middle of the road to middle-aged audience. Radio 1 it is not. It caters for an older Sunday listener (demographically) from early evening onward, which I doubt will be dismantled.
It's never claimed to be a very young persons station, and if it did sound more like R1, than how it is presently -I, for one, would give up listening.
It's NOT Broke, so don't fix it.
Read my posting again and you will clearly see that I have written that I listen to Johnnie Walker. :rolleyes:
Why have you dragged Radio 1 into the equation?
Radio 2 is evolving hence the appointment of Chris Evans, Russell Brand, Dermot O'Leary, Pete Mitchell, Steve Lamacq.
And I beg to DIFFER.
Theme Time Radio Hour won't be moving from 6Music, it was acquired by the BBC on that basis, although it does get an occasional airing on Radio 2 as a bank holiday treat.
That schedule isn't going to be permitted because Radio 2 is required by the Trust to produce a minimum number of hours of programmes about musical theatre, the arts, religious and other specialist programmes.
If your schedule was put in place people in the industry (and beyond) would say why not privatise it. The purpose of Radio 2 is to be a broad church of music styles, not just a pop station.
Lesley Douglas may have recruited all those edgy DJs but you'll find that the amount of specialist programming hasn't reduced at all over the past ten years, and that's the way it should be on a network which we ALL pay for, not just people under 50.
As for Chris Evans and Russell Brand, they are hardly an improvement on the old guard -are they!:eek:
So it is not A COMPLETE NO GO ZONE then is it.

R2 already caters for the younger end of their demographic 6 days a week.
I totally agree, I am of the older persuasion (54) and I don't bother with R2 on Sunday....But my 87 year old mother likes it and I know better than to cross her!

But the changes I have suggested to Sunday Radio 2 are nothing like Radio 1. Many old favourites, such as Johnnie Walker, Bob Harris and Ed Stewart are included (although they are old Radio 1 favourites from the pre-Bannister era).

They actually are.
Brand has #1 Podcast on iTunes therefore bringing in way more listeners on a saturday night that previous presenters did.
But then you aren't the only listener, tune in to something else if you don't like it, others are able to but leave it for those who do.
And where have I said I am the only listener? If I do not like something on Radio 2 then I have the right to say so.
Chris Evans' listening figures were revealed by RAJAR. Even Lesley Douglas cannot make these up!
If in the future I would like to listen to the Sunday programmes then I hope they would still be there. Years ago I would never have thought about listening to Mike Harding's folk music programme whereas now I'll make a point of listening.
