Maybe RTD is a bee keeper and it's nothing to do with a story ark just subliminal messaging.
Apparently 99% of all beekeepers are hobbyists, only 1% do it as a paid job.
When I last read that stat it was 99% of all beekeepers in the world, although the following story (again about the disapearances) seems to say its 99% in the UK.

My step-mum is starting out as a 'hobbyist' but wants to eventually venture into honey based products. They have lots of farmers markets where she lives so she's gonna target them.
Well, it's been known for a long time (at least 2 years) that bees are disappearing, and mentioning it is probably more of an attempt to be topical than a prediction, but the sat-nav incident, OK, that is a bit wierd!
And as for this, now that is disturbing!

Of course it could be both
If anything, they're getting bigger! Beeees!
or rats

Looking at bee stings, they apparently have an effect on ADIPOSE metabolism..
http://sportsci.org/encyc/adipose/adipose.html
It talks about using the fat as fuel, amongst other things.
So will letting the adipose go be related to the bees disappearing? Thus impacting on the series arc?
We have three pet rats in the Debian household!
Wasps are quite important in the general scheme of things as well.
