How many people in the UK do you think have a sky mini dish and sky box and actively use it? I was on holiday last week and the number of sky mini dishes I saw on my travels was huge.
Over 8.8 million subscribers with an estimated 1 million using other satellite services (freesat, freesatfromsky, multisat etc), even taking into account the grey market the UK penetration of the service is huge especially given it's costs.
Still pales when compared to the number of rooftop aerials:)

That is interesting, so there is say 7 million more people that use sky for it's subscription services over the Sky FTA? I thought there would of been more non subscribers in the UK to subscribers. Like with the prices of the packages etc and now this credit crunch.

I would expect the number of people using old Sky boxes, either with or without cards, is higher than the 1 million suggested - you see an awful lot of them.

It goes to show that regardless of the cost millions consider it worth the price especially when compared to other entertainment options and not to forget there are over 3million VM customers paying similar amounts and Setanta/TUTV paying for TV as well.

Certainly could be:)
Perhaps if we knew how many Solus cards the BBC supplied and how many were bought via CH4 that would help but I doubt there are any stats on current use.

Doesn't Sky have a churn rate of 15% or so? Over 6-8 years that's a lot of 'freesat' cards, even counting people who sign up again.

Last report was 10.7%, exactly how they define Churn for the report to the stock exchange is not quite as simple as percentage of total subscriber base being lost.

I get the feeling that with the credit crunch a lot of folks will be viewing Sky as a cheap night in when the money is tight.

I think the Credit Crunch will have an effect on Sky's Subscriber Base. It may not effect the total amount of subscribers that much but I think alot of households will get rid of the Premium Channels. The only thing that appears to be surviving the Credit Cruch and Economic concerns is the Gaming Industry.
