finance college and university places in return for millitary service .
at 16/17 ,school leavers get this option life on the line in return for what others can afford , teens taken off the street taught dicipline and learn life skills ,
personally i think he is as mad as a hatter but would such a
policy work in the uk .

more and more people in the uk are apreciating freedom more despite big brother trying to suppress it or because of the big brother factor .
as individuals we need to stand for the rights of ourselves and others to choose our path in life and not let goverment dictate it through finacial pressure .
Sorry, but what has 'slack attitude of today's society' got to do with Tuition fees in exchange for Military service?
As far as I know this is nothing new in America and they've been exchanging service for college fees for years.
Our military are pushing the fact that being in the Armed forces isn't just about the frontline, there are many other roles involved.
Oh forget it, I can't be arsed deciphering what you're on about or asking a series of questions until I find out what your point is.

Joining the military, providing you can get into the right specialisation that can be transferred to civvy street, it
could be a good career move for some people.

its a rootin tootin patriotic thing to do .
Not sure how it works exactly, but I know people have come out with allsorts of qualifications, not just in preparation for Civvy street. It maybe because of the wide range of jobs in the army and tasks they carry out.

the mod has similar entrance exams to universities etc when it comes to the better trades so what difference would that make to someone who couldnt pass entrance exam in civvy street regarding similar qualifications in the mod .
isnt it slightly misleading to give give the impression of a engineering qualification via army when they couldnt get in to college in civvy street to obtain it .
If they can't cope with the exams then it's no point them going for Uni, even if they had the money in the first place they'd most likely get turned down or fail.
so you must agree that offering similar opertunities via millitary service makes no sense or is misleading .
Maybe slightly, I don't know how induction into the forces goes and getting into education, but perhaps if there isn't already, there could be an initial assessment to say whether a person would be able to satisfy the criteria then if successfull they could enrol, rather then joining up only to find they're not suitable for the course.
if we ever adopt a similar policy( hope not it reeks of trickery) i hope they make it crystal clear .
Where are you getting this 'misleading' impression that you can get a qualification in the military when you couldn't pass the college entrance exams?
I thought the trade off here was military service for money/tuition fees.

As an aside, you've answered your own OP as this already happens here, to a degree as we've seen from the link.
It doesn't seem to be a big a part for the recruiting campaign over here though.
In the States they'll actively go out looking for Teenagers at Malls and try and recruit them using the College tuition fees as selling point.
