Tim Westwood will make his debut presenting a series on the history of rap music. Tim will also interview rap artists, past and present.
I do hope he drops his stupid accent. He sounds ridiculous when he talks.
I wonder how the Radio 2 listeners will react to Westwood? I guess his debut sums up the direction Radio 2 is taking. Bob Shennan is clearly continuing the same trend as Lesley Douglas. Good on you, Bob!

No chance of that 'appenin innit:D
Aye!
I assume that would be (c)rap music with the silent 'C' ?
Surely this sort of garbage should be on 1XTRA where the listeners might actually appreciate it ?
It's as much a part of the station's public service remit to produce a show on the history of rap as much as it's obligation to provide specialist programming for the older listener.
How can he drop an accent he's picked up naturally through being around rap stars etc, some people on these forums can be so petty
All cause you think it's that, doesn't mean others don't appreciate it and have grown up with the sound of rap, how about you list somethings you enjoy and people call it crap
Well said, at least someone here has a well-contructed opinion
If you bother to check many of the posts I've made, you will see I have supported the fact that R2 should cover a wide range of music - which it currently does.
However, I do feel Rap music isn't really suitable for Radio 2 and this series should either be on Radio 1 (where Westwood already has a show) or 1Xxtra where the urban/dance/rap genres have a whole station dedicated to them.
Radio 2 is already pushed for time in it's schedule for the wide-range of different types of music it has to cover. I'm not saying R2 shouldn't bring on new things, but when a genre already has extensive coverage on two of the BBCs networks it does seem a bit unnecessary to put it on R2 as well, since I'm guessing R1 won't be broadcasting something of interest to the 'average' R2 listener, whilst R2 is broadcasting this.
There is no way he picked it up from anyone, nobody sounds like that. It's clearly put on.
The way he shouts "Ayyiiiiiiieeee" every 30 seconds or so. Name one person who does that other than Westwood!
I used to think he was a comedy character on Radio 1, making fun of someone or other, I didn't realise he was being serious!
It's ridiculous that they are trying to cover everything. That's what the other BBC stations are for.
Agreed. The 'real' rap people probably snigger at him.
Ali G perhaps:D
Oops, I take it back, of course!:o
Does anyone not white say it?...:D
Anything by NWA will have radio 2's phoneline lighting up like xmas trees:D
No, no, no. You dont just start speaking like a retard just by being around them. Westwood deliberately chose to talk like a **** to appeal to those who looked up to 'gangster rappers' which was his chosen field of interest. That TV program he presented could have been quite good (the one about tarting up motors), but I just couldnt watch it as he sounded like either a retard or someone with special needs.
There are some real snotty people on here aren't there
Aye, a bit pushed for rap music, you've just found another way of putting it
Then you're listening to the wrong show, I don't hear him say that every 30 seconds, nor have I ever heard him say that
Grow up
He's always been a little bit that way, just tarted it up a bit for Radio 1.
Oh yeah, it's gonna be a documentary if I understand the original post correctly, so nothing different from the dance history shows they did last year.
Hip Hop Hooray It's Rap Sunday!
I remember laughing out loud when he was on Sunday Surgery talking about his visit to a condom factory, that was classic radio .
He's almost like a parody of himself.
This I cant wait to hear...the over 60's are in for a real treat if they tune in at the wrong time! They will be falling over their zimmer frames to either turn it up...or turn it off...
