That totally owns the original (mainly because of Christina).
Some will disagree but i would say Leona's version of Run is better than Snow Patrol's. (Her vocals are better and i can actually connect with that version)
No way! I disagree with those completely.
I think it's rare for a cover to be better than the original. Others that spring to mind could possibly be:
Hallelujah (Jeff Buclkey's better than Leonard Cohen's original)
The Man Who Sold the World (Nirvana's better than Bowie's original)
With a Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker's better than the Beatles' original)
Obviously, all in my opinion.
I agree 100% with this post
I also love The Carpenters version of Ticket To Ride
Seconded.
I absoloutely love Leona 's version. Although everyone does have different tastes, so I understand that some people will prefer Snow Patrols.
This thread topic comes up fairly regularly on this forum and my usual reply includes:
Song To the Siren by This Mortal Coil
Wild is the Wind by David Bowie
Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) by the Wedding Present
Where Did You Sleep Last Night by Nirvana (on the Unplugged album)
Oh, thank God
I thought i'd be mobbed of this forum for saying that. It takes an open-mind to say that her version is superior since many people say SP is better only because LL was from XF.
Another song many may disagree with is Knockin' On Heaven's Door. I connected with Avril Lavigne's version more than Bob Dylan's. She sounds very emotional on the track which tears me up
You can all tell i judge songs more by the voice rather than the music.
Jealous Guy - Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry
Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers
I have to disagree with the poster who said that Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal was better than the original. I would say its equally as good.
Also Mark Ronson's version of Valerie was played far too much on the radio for me so even though I liked it when I first heard it got bored with it after hearing it for the 100th time. It also annoys me how some people treat that song as a Amy Winehouse original and the Zutons have been forgotten about as it was their song.
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Gary Jules - Mad World
Emiliana Torrini - White Rabbit
Thea Gilmore - Ever Fallen In Love
Erykah Badu-Stay
Amy Winehouse- Valerie, Will you still love me tomorrow
Oasis- I am the Walrus
John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae- Where is the love?
John Legend- Tossin and turning
Mary J Blige- I'm going down, Mary Jane (all night long)
Shola Ama- You might need somebody
Leona Lewis- The first time I saw your face
Toni Braxton- Breathe again
Are you serious? Why would Christina Aguilera screeching at the top of her voice be better than the sexy original? Then there's the video; men dressed as women have never appealed to me.
As for the Leona "Run", it's a good cover and can see its appeal but for me lacks something.
Candy Flip - Strawberry Fields
No, i wasn't serious. I was completely joking. I'm glad you could see through it
Christina totally owned everyone else who have performed that track (that i know of, which is a lot of people). The original was hardly sexy.
Also, that's a very immature thing to say about the video since it's very clear they are not transvestites.
Or was that a 'joke'?
Good lord:eek:
You really prefer hideous windswept bellowing and over- emoting to Dolly's lovely gentle version?
Mark Ronson ft. Amy Winehouse ~ Valarie
Cascada ~ What Hurts The Most
Christina, Mya, Lil kym, Pink - Lady Marmalade
Florence and the machines - You got the love (equally good to tbh)
Amy Winehouse - Valerie
I'll add more when i think of some
Joss Stone - L-O-V-E (infectious vocals)
No Doubt - It's My Life (mainly for the video )
Have you heard Rascal Flatt's version of this (I'm unsure as to whether this is the original) but imho their version is much better than Cascada's...Cascada just make dance music, which for me, always lacks emotion.;)
Another to my lil list:
Paramore's live lounge version of "Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning)" originally by the Kaiser Chiefs. It was one of KC's lower charting singles.:)
Will Young - Hey Ya
Leona Lewis - Run
Beyonce's live version of "The Way We Were" - Barbra Streisand
That was actually pretty good. She just sang, and she sounds very nice when she just sings, instead of shouting and wailing. Her performances on the Cadilac soundtrack were all pretty good. Such a contrast to what she brings out on her own albums.
