Along with Kat, Chrissie is my favourite character. Eastenders were very lucky to have Tracey Ann Oberman for as long as they did, and I'm surprised we've not seen much of her since. Her timing was incredible.
Not always the case, people can remember storylines, but not those involved in it.
I disagree, people associate the characters with the storylines when remembering scenes they will picture the characters involved in them they wouldn't randomly think of the time "someone" confessed to "someone" they was really their mother not their sister. Plus with storylines like that people at the time couldn't help but hearing about it even if they didn't watch eastenders as it was all huge at the time
I would add Pauline, Arthur, Ethel, Bianca and Tiffany too, and while I don't like her Peggy.
I think you should go on whether or not the character has made it to household name status or not. Not the actress, the character. I think Janine Butcher has as well, but maybe not. Cindy Beale and Simon Wicks certainly did. They deserve a mention. I can't think of many people who do not know the name Stacey Slater. I'm not sure why longevity is taken into account over impact.
She was ok, but nowhere near legendary. The fact she carried one of EEs worst years doesn't say much for her either.
We agree!
She was ok at best, nothing special. Wouldn't need to see her back as some people have been saying. Wasn't much point to her character then, absolutely none now.
I'm just going to give my own opinion here but I thought she was completely forgettable. Whenever she's mentioned I'm like "oh yeah. I forgot about her". I don't know, I guess her character just didn't do much for me.

Not really. She wasn't in it long enough to be considered as a legend, people who didn't watch the show at the time arn't going to remember her or know anything about it. Its people like Dot, Peggy, Ian who go down as eastenders legends
The legendary status is not defined by tenure, but impact.
I'd definitely say Chrissie Watts is an EastEnders icon in the same way Steve Owen, Tiffany Mitchell and Kat Slater are. She was absolutely massive for the show, and a pivotal character in EastEnders history.
I wish there was some way to bring her back, even just for a bit. I can just imagine, in about 15 years or so, we watch as a fifty-something Chrissie Watts delivers Sharon's killer line "Bet you never thought you'd see me again" standing back behind the bar of the Vic. It would be epic
Whether she is classed as a legend or not depends on how you class I legend I guess, Obv those people who think it's defined by length of time will say she isn't a legendary character but those who judge by impact will think otherwise. Either way theres no denying through september 2005 the murder enquiry she owned the show and to anyone who's forgotton how brilliant she was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvwY_iDk3vw
I disliked this character the whole time she was on the show. I remember thinking she was never quite 'right' somehow, quite 'fitting' as Dirty Den's wife. The only scene I really enjoyed of hers was when she chopped off the police womans hair (Phills then wife).
I loved the way Chrissie could be all sweetness and light to a person's face and as soon as they turned their back, in a twinkling of an eye her expression had changed to one of contempt! usually these looks were targeted at Den or Kate:D
I agree with the majority that Chrissie was, at the very least, a great character - and to many was legendary. Undoubtedly she was very popular - there are a few who didn't/don't like her - but you can't please everyone. EE could do alot worse than bring her back!!!
What I will say is that on WW they published the number each character got in the doof-doof count-down.... Chrissie came in at number 40 or something (can't remember). BUT, she was only 10 cliff-hangers away from characters like Janine Butcher who have been in the show for years! She was beating characters that had been arond for three times as long as her. I would say, that if we were to do some sort of "legendary average" - somehow, divide a characters impact by the amount of time they were on the show, Chrissie would probably come out on top. I don't think any character did quite as much as she did in 1 and a half - certainly the show has never focused around a single character as much as it did her in 2005.
I agree that being Den's wife added to her lustre - but had she been a dud character, played by a dud actress, then I think it is safe to say the character would just have been summarily dismissed.
She is definately a legend - no, she isn't up there with the likes of Pat, Pauline, Sharon, Den, etc - but she certainly punched above her weight. She made far more of an impact and was far more critical to the show than characters like Bianca or Janine were in the same time-span.
But at the end of the day, it is down to personal preference and judgement, as others have noted. But she was extraordinarily popular at the time - I do hope she comes back (along with Sharon). Not now - to many returnees - but perhaps next year or something.

Absolutely fantastic. Loved those looks too.... I loved the scene where she was practising to cry in the mirror - crying one minute, the next instant she stoped to adjust her hair!!!:D

Chrissie is definitely one of the ten greatest characters to grace Albert Square. I'd love for them to find a way to bring she and Sharon back in some capacity and for them to be arch enemies in the manner of Dynasty-style superbitches.

Chrissie was always very much in that Dynasty mold, I always felt.
I adored Chrissie and really wanted her to escape! I hope she makes a return someday.
The scene where she cut all of Kate's hair was brilliant
Can anyone jog my memory - what happened to Jake Moon when Chrissie was caught?
Jake was supposed to bail her out - but in one of the most ridiculous plot devices (that would become all too prominent with Harwood in charge) he lost the money, so she dumped him.... then he proposed to try and woe her back, but she refused.
Then he went back to working for Johnny Allan iirc.
I'd deem her noteworthy to any of us who were watching at that time. But not legendary. Legendary are characters like Dot Cotton, Ian Beale, Peggy Mitchell and Pat Butcher who the general public know about even if they've never watched a single episode of EE in their lives.
Although she was only around for 18 months, Chrissie had more storylines than most characters would have in 5 years. The whole show revolved around her for the majority of 2005 and suffered greatly as a result of her departure, so I would say she is without doubt worthy of legendary status.
Yeah but most of her storylines in 2005 at least all centred around one thing - Den and what she'd done. She was in it loads but it was all as part of that one storyline. In 2004, she did other stuff but nothing noteworthy. She is known for bumping off Den and then trying to cover it up. The stuff with Jake was dull beyond belief, she was at her best when scheming. I loved her. She made more of an impact than other characters who were also only around for a short while in soap terms.

Oh fantastic. Spot on Pete!!!!!
Did anyone actually NOT like that scene??
I had forgotten about that one:D
