Good grief, what next - being able to have a debate in Parliament if you get 100,000 signatures on a petition
Em, it wasn't. It was so we would have enough people with gunsit would be "in the same spirit" as the old National Service, bringing together people from different backgrounds.

You get a badge saying "hug me, I did Summer camp"
Don't forget the teddy bear and the certificate of achievement.
I mean, it's not like 16 year olds who have some spare time and want to give something to the community currently have any opportunity to do so.
I'm glad Mr Cameron has come up with this unique concept of work that you give up your time for unpaid.
Yes, I think this 'voluntary work' thing might catch on in the charity sector!
Not saying that you cannot get these elsewhere. I think that it's a good idea, but we already have these sorts of schemes. DoE, BB, Scouts... Also, I feel that anyone willing to get involved with this will already be doing some of the ones I mentioned before they are 16.

I do worry it could pave the way for a scheme to get people into enforced, unpaid community service type duties, though.
Community service criminals, the unemployed, now 16 year old kids. It is going to get mighty overcrowded out there, methinks.
I don't think it's aimed at the homeless.
Haha, this made me giggle:D.
I think I might have to tell the charity I work for unpaid about this volunteer lark:p.
Some do.
I'm actually in favour of the scheme. What harm can it do? I just question whether it will ever materialise. The cynic in me says it's just yet more electioneering.
