Superb commentary by our own musical maestro Steve Banyard. Best I've ever heard from him and really built up the sense of occasion.

...and welcome to Part 9 of the thread. :)

Only caught the second half of the game but I thought that Champion and Pleat were pretty good on what was a very important result in the title race.

Problem is people have their opninion of Pleat and certain commentators and they will never change their minds.

I'm the same with Spurs. Will NEVER EVER admit they play well, even if they have.

Just cant bring myself to say it!!! ;)

I'm a big fan of Martin Tyler but when things take him by suprise, he no longer appears to suddenly 'change' and get excited. Peter Drury has called it how it should.

Martin Tyler for me is one of the elder statesman of commentary and a cracking one but his goal call today wasnt too good. Hawthorne called it superbly earlier in the season when Owen scored too.

He had a great game but I just preferred Drury's goal call.

At long last I've found Jon Champion's goal call of Danny Rose's scorcher against Arsenal. You'll have to deal with some other stuff in the process but it's there.

I preferred Tyler's. Drury's goal call was fine if not a little shouty but I thought Tyler had more of a throwback call.

Don't think much of Woody Paige's attempt. :p

I heard Champion's call on the Premier League Preview show ... it was pretty good but could have done without the co-comm talking over it.

Most unproffessional Twitter tweets ever from Jaqui Oatley, claiming Gordon Strachan was rude to her at West Bromwich v Middlesbrough today!!

    http://twitter.com/JacquiOatley

Gordon Strachan's just been extremely rude to me in press conf. I know his team were poor but no need for that.
To those asking, he clearly didn't want to be interviewed by me then said "thank goodness" after my last question. Does himself no favours.

If as Pearce mentioned Strachan is on the BBC World cup team, there could be some friction if he's in the same hotel as Oatley!!:eek::eek:

He's deffinitely in the top 5.

He was superb today - once you get over his mispronounciations, he's brilliant. Puts ALL the BBC and most of Sky's co commentators to shame.

Gary Weaver TALKS TOO FAST on every game he does.

I don't understand Sky being so willing to put him on live games like they did last year and this year.

He's piss poor, end of story. Just a northern local radio chancer I'm afraid.

Sadly Sky seem to be taking their recruits from cheesy local radio these days - Weaver and Taphouse fall into that category, and presumably Copeless and Beck too?

I wouldn't put Taphouse in the Weaver/Cope/Beck category.

Taphouse has a very easy voice to listen to.

She's said nothing out of order. If he genuinely was rude then why shouldn't she tell people he was. Free country.

Hmm, and I wonder why I never take your opinion on anything seriously with comments like that.
You're probably just a caricature of the thick loudmouth cockney idiot that most of us up north have come to expect! :D

I like Pleat, and other than Beglin he is better than anyone ITV have used in his absence this season. Ok so he makes a fair few pronunciation errors, but his reading of the game and knowledge of players is spot on. Today was a bit of an odd game for ESPN to introduce him on, as he's a Spurs man through and through, though there wasn't too much evidence of bias.

Other than United & Spurs fans, the party happiest with todays results will undoubtedly be Sky, with the title and race for 4th being blown wide open. Going slightly off-topic, with news yesterday that Sky will no longer be producing ESPN's PL coverage , will there be quite as much cross-promotion next season? Methinks not, but you never know.

Pleat is better than Southgate, by a mile, but clearly ITV want to use younger co commentators, regardless of quality.
