The Velvelettes' Needle in a Haystack became one of my all-time fave songs on a very meaningful day about 5 years ago. I cannot understand how it was either not released as a single here or was not a hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VweadeTCvNA
While I find Girls Aloud ok, this has been my fave song of theirs and the only song of theirs to be one of my faves of the year in question!
BBC Radio Leeds do an eclectic 60s show with Diana Luke from 9pm to 1am on Saturday evenings. I am listening to it at present, at least between tracking down these songs on Youtube!
I always think of 'Needle In a Haystack' as one of the quintessential 'Songs of the Sixties'.........well of the 60s i remember anyway..........along with Jimmy Mack and Dancing in the Streets.
I'm surprised it wasn't a hit...........it was huge around the circles I moved in !

i always prefer 'nowhere to run (nowhere to hide)' one of me fav ever motown tracks.
Never heard this one before. I like it a lot. It must have been really frustrating back in 1963 for Helen Shapiro to be headlining a tour with the Beatles as a support act, only to find near the end of the tour that they had become the headliners and she the support act. I think this may have brought her pop career to a premature end, which is a pity, because she had a great voice.
indeed... keep em coming! im enjoting listening to them. im about out of ideas....i was only a boy in the 60's..
I'm running out of ideas too, so the idea I've just had for this particular post may just be clutching at straws.
Here are four different versions of the same song, all from 1965. The song is the Ray Davies composition "I Go To Sleep", and the versions are by Cher, Solihull beat combo the Applejacks, German singer Marion and, finally, the original by the Kinks.
I have to confess that by far my favourite version of this song is by the Pretenders. This is the only instance I can think of where I prefer an Eighties cover of a Sixties song to the original.
i love that version of Grapevine - James Jamerson at his best
Thank you, thank you, thank you, The Funk Brothers members,
only now getting their just deserts
Ureil Jones, Benny Benson, Earl Van Dyke to mention a few.
thanks, it was a gamble as i didnt know how many oldies there were on here and who could be bothered to share their knowlege. many thanks to everyone who has contributed cos its taught me a few things
the first of may is VERY emotional... it tweeks me evertime i hear it, as does 'to love somebody', best perhaps by nina simone.
i use youtube converter... great for getting songs you can no longer buy!
Yes , I use ZamZar too , to convert to MPG so I can watch special ( to me ) YouTube links offline , but I find it a bit hit and miss .......... For purely MP3 then then link I posted is by far the very best

First of all, the 1962 original (and imo the best) version of the song that Brian Poole and the Tremeloes would take to the top of the UK charts in the following year.
I played Laura Greene at a BBQ the other day and someone pipped up 'It's the KFC music'
...they got a badly burnt sausage!
Ha Ha KFC Indeed!
I remember the first time I heard it on the Tv and started singing along with it and my missus asked you know that song?
I sad I do but don't ask me who it is,
three weeks later She tracked it down.
My long and distant youth catching up with me

The B side of the Animals' Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood was the very quirky Club A Go-Go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0-7E4D38F8
No sacrilege intended, but Girls Aloud copied the intro for their hit Biology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBPtP4t2J1k

Come On by The Atlantics, fantastic Yardbirds-y type band from Australia.
