Biggest waste of 5 years ever invented. What a craphole , a festuring flyblown heap of acumilated state sponsored mediocrity , only good thing about it was that i had a lovely girlfreind , rest of it was just like a prison sentence , locked up with morons, the patently dense & other assorted gonks whose only future seemed to lie in early parenthood , prison or dead end jobs.

I just couldnt wait to get out. College & University where just superb, i felt like i leraned more in one day at furniture college than i did in a whole year at school, but it helps when your surrounded by good lectureres, old pro's & like minded students, university being a continuation of this with the added benefits of more women & a few light ales to have a pop at.

I dread sending my little girl to school, given that she is such a bright little thing & i just dont want to see her held back due to the sheer mind numbing tedium that schooling is of targets, box ticking & state sponsored mediocrity / zombification of the nation.

    :)

school was the worst part of my life..hated every second I was there..didn't learn anything..I've learned more since I left..when I went to college and everything was great I knew then that 'school' wasn't real life and people wouldn't get away with half the things they did at school...my life got so much better after I got into the real world

I'm going to have to corrst you here. You did learn stuff, it's just useless stuff you don't need to know to live your day to day life.

Most of what you learn at school is useless information. The obvious example is The Battle of Hastings. If you ask people when it was the majority of people will say 1066. The answer is correct. So we all know that one. When do we use that piece of information in out daily lives? When was you last stopped on the street by a stranger who needed help and wondered if you knew when the Battle of Hastings was?
In primary school we had a lesson on the different flags of the world. More useless information. Dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years. Well I don't think I'll be running one over anytime soon then will I?
What is the probability of rolling a number less than 7 if you rolled two dice consecutively 700 times? When am I ever likely to roll two dice consecutively 700 times? Even if I went to a casino for the night I wouldn't roll dice that many times in the evening.
I have no idea how big the highest mountain is and I don't care, but if in the future I do need to know I'll go online, the library or look at a book in WHSmiths and find out. I really don't need that bit of information to carry around in my head for the rest of my life on the off chance it ever becomes useful.

Putting aside bullying I think so many people hate(d) school as they know what they are being told is totally useless information they will never or are unlikely to ever use.

I was bullied viciously from the day I started til the day I left.

The last day at school couldn't of come quick enough, I hated it.

There seems an awful lot of bullying that went on at school.

    Guess I was lucky.

I hated school and couldn't wait to leave. The bullying, the petty rules, the uniform, the compulsory sport - there was very little to like really, apart from a few lessons with the tiny minority of good teachers.

Whenever I am really stressed about something, I have this anxiety dream about being sent back to school for some reasons or another.

I really enjoyed school, treated it like a great social event. College rocked and again it was a big party.. eventually I got my head together and took professional qualifications in my early twenties.

My nan always used to say "school is the best time of your life, and you'll miss it when you leave" turns out she was right I do miss it, hanging out with my friends at break and lunch, most of us have gone our seperate ways now, I miss learning which is something I never thought I would say, especially Maths, a subject I found really boring at the time.

though at the time I couldn't wait to leave, now I wish I could go back.

Not as much as your wallet is probably dreading the bashing it's going to get one once the other kids start convincing her of the need to possess an undending torrent of 'things' to avoid otherwise being ostracised as 'uncool' and 'weird' :(

I always think that if your schooldays were the best bit of your life, you must have made a bit of a hash of adulthood.

Didn't feel it at the time but yeah I would agree. I didn't take school as seriously as I should have and regret that now but I did have a whale of a time. No responsibilitites, laigh with friends every day, boy dilemmas...

Junior school-those were the best days of my life. I loved every minute and even now my mum tells me that's the happiest she's ever seen me. I don't think I've ever really grown up, so perhaps that's why I've struggled in the adult world! :p
Secondary school had it's moments. It was certainly a more lively and social life than the one I have now! It's easy with hindsight to pick out the good bits, which were mainly, as others have said, the lack of responsibility etc compared to full blown adulthood.
Uni was fab for obvious reasons, and I really wish I could go back and revisit those days. There are still things I'd do differently but the freedom was just amazing.

This is a major reason why I am not keen on having kids. The thought of subjecting one of your own to not just the potential evils of school but the rest of the world just horrifies me.

OK maybe that was a tad melodramatic, but you get my point!

I think the point of the saying is this....

When i was at school, all i had to worry about was learning, homework, having food and going out with my mates. There were other issues like bullying, girlfriend issues, falling out with mates etc but that was all i had to worry about really.

Fast forward to now, and there's mortgage, bills, children, responsibilities, death of loved ones from old age, DIY, cars, work etc etc...

Most people had an uneventful journey through school but as they get older realise that with age comes responsibility.

This isn't to say that some people didn't have a horrendous time at school, just that it's a lot harder when you're grown up and standing on your own two feet.

That's the way i see it anyway.

Even though I was occaisionally bullied and did dumb stuff that made my life harder, school was definitely the best days of my life.

Perhaps thats because I haven't made the best choices since, but I've made my bed......

Can't describe how much I wish I could re-wind back to when I was 15.

Either that or you were a big bully - someone has to have been doing all this bullying! ;)

I'll confess, I may have been what some would classify as a bit of a bully - nothing physical but used to rip the p!ss out of the obvious easy targets - feels cowardly looking back, but at the time it was kill or be killed - most bullying comes from paranoia that if you're not part of the crowd you're the next victim IMO - I would say there's very few bullying "ringleaders" who get genuine satisfaction from it.

No worries about paying the rent/mortgage.
    No worries about your job.
    No worries about your kids.
No worries about you or your families health.
Can't get sacked for not really bothering as you're not in the mood.

I can see why people could think that. Not sure I'd want to go back though.

When people said it's the best time of my life to me while I was at school, I thought I may as well end my life now if it's only going to get worse.

As it happened, school was just a time in my life. No better or worse than the rest of it, so far.

Or maybe it's a load of normal people that were bullied by weirdos and misfits?
It isn;t the victims that have to go about in groups "proving" how tough and hard they are.

School was the worst days of my life. I was horribly bullied. I got spat on, had used sanitary pads stuck to me, held upto fence and punched in stomach, got chased around sience room with bunson burners, got screwed up wet tissues thrown at me (or sweaty bettys as people called them)

Thinking back instead of going to teachers about it, i should have gone to police.

Although I mostly enjoyed going to school, I wouldn't say they were the best years of my life.
I disliked some of the lessons, especially maths& science, loved cookery, geography and writing essays.
I always got on well with my teachers although one of them had a bad temper and you just knew when to stear clear of her.
I hated staying to school dinners when I did have to stay, I tried to go home as often as I could. Our school had dinner ladies that wouldn't let you leave so much as a crumb. It wasn't until I was in seniors that I started enjoing the dinners and the dinner ladies realised they couldn't force us to eat what we didn't like

i was badly bullied in 1st and 2nd year of high school, after looking forward to going, still have the scars, so my mum pulled me out of that school and moved me to one in the next town, and i loved it, didnt get bullied anymore, i stood up for myself more and eventually people forgot i hadn't been there from the start, left 9 years ago and still miss it!

Urgh no - I hated it. A rought comprehensive in the 70s. Not fun. I still have nightmares set there, it was that vile. No education either as the thugs were so far out of control, the syllabus never got taught (they were too busy smashing holes in the classroom wall, or smashing windows, or getting arrested).

Total waste of time. I could have got better grades at O and A Level if I'd stayed home and studied alone. And socially - I had no intention of going to prison in adult life so where would i ever have to mix with people like that again? My only itnerchange with people like those I was at school with, nowadays is to say "Can I have fries with that?":D
