it was such a shock to me when I found out on the news on 21 Feb 2002 that John Thaw had died as I did not know he had Throat Cancer and had hoped he would be back with another great drama
which TV star did you not expect to die and how shocked were you when they did die

Thuy Trang - or the Yellow Power Ranger
She died in a car crash. I think PR was the only thing she did but it was a blast from the past when I found out she had died.

    John Ritter.

Played the father character in 8 SIMPLE RULES, and died when they were supposed to be filming more episodes/seasons.
They had to write into the show that the dad had unexpectedly collapsed whilst shopping :(

Geoffrey Hutchings last week was very unexpected to me, I didn't think he'd been in hospital or any kind of illness.

Dermot Morgan is also a good one, although I don't remember hearing it first hand in 1998.

    Clement Freud.
I heard him more on the radio but he did have some TV appearances. Died at his desk last year. 84, so not a bad innings, but was still slightly surprising.

Did he collapse live on an ITV show? I used to watch that show every week, but missed it the week he died.

Friday Night at the Palladium or something??

Yeah, he suffered a massive heart attack on stage during 'Live from Her Majesty's'. Everyone thought it was a joke and part of the act, but sadly it wasn't.

I remember that, it was really weird the way the dynamic changed from 'what is he like' to 'oh my god'.... felt almost voyeuristic when it slowly became clear he wasn't messing around and the transmission was cut. But what a way to go, eh...
