I have every episode on dvd.Including the two series in New Zealand.Bought them from play.com years ago.I watched the English series four on sunday.Still a good programme.
Not sure this was strictly a kids show by todays standards, as It was very very dark in places. It would never make it on to the present day BBC childrens tv that's for sure.

An excellent series and a true TV classic.
Was it? I think not. I mean the dark reference. I agree it was a TV classic.
Oh the memories! Didn't he fall over in a different direction at the start if each episode or something? I recall one or two scary dreams about Worzel!:o

He was only 56.
Also when the scarecrows spoke in scarecrow language , Worzeleese :
W wer
O wer
R wer
Z wer
E wer
L wer
Favorite line from a show was when Worzel was going to marry Dolly Clothespeg and the vicar (or crowman) asked
"Who is giving the bride away"
To which Aunt Sally replied sneeringly
" Give her away , i wouldn't throw her away"
One of the best tv programmes of my youth ! So much that i bought Worzel Gummidge videos for my little girl (partly so i could watch them again)
I've always found scarecrows in general to be very sinister looking, though.
That was Catweazle
The sweet little girl in Gummidge also died,Charlotte Coleman, about 10 years ago, from an asthma attack.
I heard that there was going to be a remake but i dont see why they can't just repeat the original.
I bought the box set a few months back and although loving it some parts still give me the creeps, especially that scarecrow that worzel makes himself
An excellent series and a true TV classic.
made by ITV
my grandad made me watch it and i was scared stiff

The defunct Southern Television to be more precise.
Nearly right, but at the end of every syllable, you say 'werzel', instead of just 'wer'
And Dafthead's weird mouth scared me as a kid.

:D
I knew that, but being as ITV doesn't do childrens TV at all these days I was referring to the one that does - the PC BBC
Actually it is this
W wer
O wer
R wer
Z wer
E wer
L werzel
So it's at the end of each word, not syllable
I think!lol
Words with 3 letters or less had a 'dip at the end didnt they?
Y wer
E wer
S wer -dip
