It's fantastic how many bits of that were so important to the whole series, but you didn't realise at the time it was first shown how significant they really were!

the scene where Zero is taunting The Doctor about the pandorica especially I thought!
Well we've just grinned like idiots all the way through that. What a fantastic episode, and probably the best series opener ever.
I mentioned it when the show first aired, but the bit when Amelia grabs her suitcase and runs back downstairs to wait for the raggedy Doctor gets me every time. Just chokes me up. And how Matt hits the ground running is spellbinding. Phenomenal.
Looking forward to seeing the Beast Below again. I think it's really overdue a reappraisal by some Who fans who perhaps underrate it a bit.
One thing that really struck me watching it again after watching the end of Tennant's run recently was just how much the show needed the massive change. I felt by the end of DT and RTD's reign that it had all got a bit out of control. There was still the ever wonderful David Tennant (outside of RTD himself, how massively important was this man's contribution to Doctor Who?), who was eminently watchable even when the show was at it's poorest, but I felt that Davies had just run out of ideas. Now, my disclaimer is that I love both RTD and DT to absolute bits, but the time had come for a change.
Watching Steven Moffat's and Matt Smith's new Who I was immediately transported right back to being a kid again and watching Tom Baker for the first time, and how exciting that it all was. The change in tone has been absolutely vital imho, and my only wish is that it should run for years. I hope when Matt Smith moves on we have a number of similarly legendary years to look back on all misty eyed.

Much as I loved the RTD era, I do think that it was time for a change actually, and yeah I know what you mean about the show feeling a bit more fresh again.

Yeah, and I say that without any spite or anything. I think both Russell T D and David T felt that the time had come for a change, hence the decision to move on. And isn't it always best to bow out leaving people wanting more, than let it all get staid and stale?
I think it was David who said at the time that one of the great abilities the show had was how it could regenerate itself completely just like the Doctor himself. It's hugely important that the show can do this imho. I know a few people still have the Tennant hangovers, even now after a phenomenal year with Matt. It's inevitable in a way. I felt much the same when Tom Baker left as a kid. Luckily the ratings tell us the show can survive even the most heart wrenching changes, even if the closer fans cannot.

Family of blood, some of the best stories ever on Who.
most of us have the box sets with those episodes on, so obviously that means it's less noteworthy that those series are being shown on tv, to be fair.....

That, and the fact that they're repeatedly pretty much constantly already. If they wanted to turn a whole weekend over to Who, why not show some that hasn't been seen in recent years? Or at least in recent weeks...

I agree, no matter what I have on DVD I always find it far more exciting to watch them on TV. Kind of like the feeling when a song I have on Itunes is played on the radio

I think that means I prefer this series over the previous 4! lol.
Anyone else going to watch them again? I will be watching them on iPlayer, maybe during my night shift when nothing's going on lol.

My continuous argument exactly.
