I am one of those saddos that buy their cards and wrapping paper in the January sales.
I have also started buying xmas presents if I am out and about. I've got about 8 in already for various friends and family members. that means when November arrives I only have to buy for my children and OH, as everyone else is done and dusted. I hate flapping around at the last minute.
For the last 10 years or so,i've always made a start on pressie shopping in september, when the children go back to school. I have already got 2 pressies so far.
One of the houses on our street has their decorations and lights up as of yesterday

I love Christmas and I can understand why shops put stock out so early; people buy it. Selfridges sold a thousand baubles in there first week of opening there Christmas section in August last year!
However I believe it does sort of ruin the 'specialness' of Christmas. There's no Christmas spirit in August when most people are preparing for there 'SUMMER' holidays
I just detest Christmas full stop because of the commercial onslaught brought to us from about July onwards.
If it didn't start until about November I think I would probably enjoy it more but seeing Christmas items in the shop from August just brings me down. Can't we just enjoy the present rather than always looking towards the next commercial occasion?
Christmas shouldn't be allowed in shops or town centres until at least November. The over commercialisation of Christmas has totally ruined it for me. I detest Christmas these days.
I agree, I always think it should be the week after Halloween. I remember last year I was back at uni two weeks and the Christmas stuff was already in the shops  That was in mid-September!
Its gonna be bit more special this year..Im hoping to go my my brothers for dinner..they have a new baby, and im gonna cuddle her loads ..xx she will be 5 months then, bless!
I'm eagerly awaiting the first of this year's "Christmas has been banned!!!" stories.
Or that it has been re-named to FestCember or something. IT HASN'T been banned or re-named by anyone or anything - not even the "PC Brigade" have asked for this to happen - whoever the "PC Brigade" actually are
Christmas does seem to have completely lost its original Christian message. Most Christmas displays no longer seem to feature any Christian characters(no doubt for fear of offending non Christians!). These huge shops enticing people in to buy presents they cannot afford for people they do not particularly like but feel obliged to buy presents for. Then, when the shops close, the homeless people get to sleep in the shop doorways. Totally unChristian. What would Jesus say if he saw the insanity and pure commercialism of Christmas today?
I am not a Christian but I do feel so strongly about what Christmas has come to represent over recent years. This is displayed so obviously when shops are starting to sell Christmas goods in August. It does truly disgust me and makes me feel quite ashamed at times.
I don't buy Christmas presents and don't expect any. I'd rather buy what I want, for myself, in the sales. I can wait the one day for them.
Sorry to sound so gloomy but this one thing that I just feel so strongly about(bit of a rant I know).

And there is a Christmas Biscuit selection available to buy at my local supermarket.
To be honest, I'm just as bad as I watched the Grinch in bed last night (how cool am I?)
Is it too early to watch "Elf" yet??:o
Never to early to watch Elf or a Muppet Christmas Carol
Give Halloween and Guy Fawkes' Night a chance!
I work in the stores dept in Argos, Toy Story 3 stuff is flying out allready.

Yup that sums it up for me too, it's become an orgy of spending and gluttony followed by debt, sickening to watch.
In fact only true christians should be allowed to celebrate it.:)

I am used to CommercialMas tat getting into the shops from mid-late summer every year but it doesn't mean it is right.
It has turned the whole thing into an over commercialised, tacky "event" that goes on for far too long.
