Sky's La Liga coverage is just shambolic! Most Sundays we miss first half the games and today it started in 13th minute of the game and it is not even in HD.
La liga is one of the best leagues in the world and I think Sky should start respecting it and show the games full and in HD!
i wouldn't have thought so considering last weeks games were HD (as well as last seasons).
I believe Sky only have a limited amount of HD studio facilities until they move to their new purpose built hq in the next few years. Also Sky aren't keen on doing SD studio and HD game pictures.

Its a UEFA regulation
Each member association may decide on two and a half hours on a Saturday or a Sunday during which any Transmission of football may be prohibited within the territory of the relevant member association.
These Regulations apply equally to Transmissions of domestic and foreign matches.
So the English FA have nominated 2:45-5:15pm on a Saturday to be the blackout period. (With certain dates- ie international weekends and the FA Cup Final exempt.) So the Barcelona game could only be shown from 5:15pm onwards.
The Welsh FA haven't set a blackout period, which is why there are live Welsh League matches on S4C, their signal 'leaks' into the rest of the UK as its FTA.
Must be that the HD studios are in use for other programmes that take a higher priority than La Liga. You need an HD studio to pass the HD pictures through- although ESPN use a (technically speaking) rather messy workaround, something Sky clearly don't want to do.
Its equally annoying for NFL games on a Sunday night- they're received by Sky in HD (and look fantastic when broadcast like that) but are down converted to SD and then upscaled, because of the lack of HD capable studios (or other parts of the transmission infrastructure).
Same complaint from NFL fans Sunday evening - all NFL games are in SD tomorrow night...even when being fed to Sky in HD. Channel 4 also showing game in SD later.
At least ESPN are broadcasting their NFL coverage in HD.
I to was disappointed that the Spanish Football was not in HD but what i find a little strange is that watching the goals on Sky Sports News HD it appears HD!! Upscaled maybe? not really sure. Does seem strange to have 3 consecutive games and None are in HD.

Not strange at all- the control room would have received the La Liga feed in HD and routed it to Sky Sports News' record area. They would also have routed it to the studio producing the La Liga programme. Sky Sports News (given the recent upgrade) almost certainly has the ability to record feeds in HD, however the studio (or some other part of the broadcast chain) isn't HD capable, so the control room would have downconverted it to SD.
True, but Sky are building new studios which will hopefully remove this problem.
Maybe so, but I can't avoid the HD fee this month in the hope that Sky offer me next month what I got last week in HD.
Sky should be offering us HD where available at all times. I watch football for the live event, not the talking shop that surrounds it, so if I can get just over 90 mins in HD and the rest upscaled I'd rather have that than Sky's 'preference' not not mix SD studio with HD live.

But Sky can't do that. The feed has to go through the SD studio.
As stated earlier, other broadcasters have come up with messy workarounds - like ESPN; ITV used to do the same thing in the 2008-09 season. Sky don't have the ability to do that.

maybe the host broadcaster has an issue with the HD international feed ?

wasn't a problem last year (or last week).

Surely there is no UEFA regulation for Sundays. Villarreal v Espanyol will kick off at 6.00pm today yet Sky is showing it from 6.30pm!
Considering that they now have 4 sport channels in HD, there is no excuse why they can't show those games in full & in HD.
Clearly Sky is just taking the mickey out of La Liga.
Once they get to tonights games they're listed as being in HD. Unlike the NFL- grrrr.

The regulation only applies to the country in which the league operates. Our 3pms are broadcast all over the world.
As above "prohibited within the territory of the relevant member association"
