I shall come back to this thread at the weekend to add more. For now I felt like mentioning George Bad Benson with Supership, as it has just been played on Tameside Radio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOeOaY636cI
He became better known in the early 80s as just George Benson for songs like Gimme The Night and Never Give Up on a Good Thing.
From 1970 Ginger Bakers Airforce and Man of Constant Sorrow
I can still remember the review from N.M.E. "A number 1 smash or complete bomb" Yes it bombed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9LuLHJXbiY
The original (released in 1966) is by the Syndicate of Sound, and although the Banned's cover is good, I think the original is a lot better, but as I generally prefer sixties music to seventies music I would say that, wouldn't I?
I'm just a bit surprised that nobody (most notably myself) has submitted the original to the sixties thread.

thanks for that..... i didnt know it was a cover until quite recently.
Tommy James - Draggin' The Line (1971)
Tommy James parted company with the Shondells in 1970, and embarked on a solo career. A year later he released this classic single.
Toto - Hold The Line (1978)
Four years prior to having a massive UK hit single with the brilliant “Africa”, the band that named itself after Dorothy’s dog in “The Wizard of Oz” had a minor UK hit single with this fine track.
Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain' - never released as a single but a classic track. This is a very rare 1977 performance from Japan (ffwd to 1:35 if you want to skip the intro or to 3:58 if you just want to hear the F1 theme tune!)
good greif!!!! someone else knows it! you are the only other person ive met (real life and online) who knows that excellant track.. i have it on vinyl.. like one of my first posts here (exuma - damnfool) it was played alot as background music on radio 1s roadshow in the summer of 71. (we taped off the radion that year and have snippets of it alongside 'chirpy chirpy cheap cheap' and 'im gonna runnaway from you' )
Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpu8wuGMTrY
The first band where the term "Heavy Metal" was used in a publication- more the 1st Christian rock band to me tho....
ORS (otherwise known as Orlando Riva Sound), released this drumtastic cover to a synth beat back in the late 70s... About the plight of the indigenous Sioux indians... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuoYjdGWFSs
Millie Jackson... ALL THE WAY LOVER Millie sings like a man and cusses like one too! Savour the full unedited orchestral version and listen out for the spoken rap in the middle- Millie created the early rap as we know it- personally I'd rather listen to her rap than any of this modern guff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b7aNwot-_M
Radio Stars 'Nervous Wreck' (The one and only song so far in the history of pop the features the word electroencephalograph in it!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNpHW70UIuY

Yes, it's a brilliant track. The Blues always sounds good played on a violin.
Adriano Celentano - Prisencolinensinainciusol (1972)
Adriano Celentano is an Italian, but the song is not sung in Italian, it’s sung in gibberish, yes gibberish! It’s supposed to sound like American English would to a non-English speaker. An interesting idea, and a great track too. Well worth a listen.
The Righteous Brothers - Substitute (1975)
The 1978 version of this song by the all-girl South African band, Clout, is far too well known and was much too big a hit to qualify for this thread, so here instead is a version by the mighty Righteous Brothers, recorded some three years earlier as an album track. As much as I love the Righteous Brothers (“You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” and “Unchained Melody” are imo two of the greatest singles ever) I have to confess that I think that the Clout version is a lot better.

Warren Zevon - Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner

Yes, it's a brilliant track. The Blues always sounds good played on a violin.
I love that Joni Mitchell song!
The two Robert Gordon tracks are new ones on me, both are fantastic, but with Link Wray on guitar how could they be otherwise?
Here is my selection for today:-
Fleetwod Mac - Dragonfly (1970)
The band’s first single release following the departure of the great Peter Green.
