Terrestrial DX (Atmospherics affecting TV reception)
Tropo time, current weather & atmospheric conditions are affecting both analogue and terrestrial digital signals.
For example, via the roof-top aerial, Mux 2 and A from Waltham (UHF channels 23 and 26) are gone. In their place on analogue, services from Crystal Palace.
Receiving ITV1 Anglia on UHF 41, which is interfering with Sutton Coldfield Mux 1, however this is mitigated using the indoor aerial, where I can move the aerial into a position where it doesn't receive Anglia.
Services from Tacolneston on 55, 59, 62 and 65 - making Sutton Coldfield Mux D on 55 absolutely impossible.
Sandy Heath and Nottingham battling each other on 27 for BBC Two Analogue.
ITV1 Yorkshire and C4 on 25 and 32 from Belmont.
EDIT: Seem to have discovered Channel 4 on 66, think it's Hannington, On Teletext is says "Channel 4 South 4/8OW"
Possibly the last time we have such a lot of analogue co-channel round here!
What's the situation where you are tonight?

Heathfield (Sussex) BBC One South East is on 49... Strong enough signal from Ceefax? If so, check page 160.

I had wondered why the BBC channels, Dave and E4 were intermittent tonight.
based at north Herts, aerial pointing north to Sandy Heath.
I would imagine that until Sandy has its DSO next March, I will see more of this as most of the transmitters that have already DSO'd are north of my location.
Where is here?
EDIT: Just seen your post in the other forum! (Ipswich.)
Which channels?
It was fine all day then started breaking up at about 8:45, so much so that I went out to check the aerial was still ok.
We have had perfect reception for 10 years and not seen anything like this here, it must be seriously bad.
Seems to have come back now but for how long?
He forgot to mention Freeview!
It's happened before, and once I was receiving Nederland 1.2,3, Ketnet, NDR and ZDF on my indoor aerial!!!
Whereas in days gone by, it just affected BBC1/2, ITV/4, we've now got low powered Freeview interleved between the high powered analogue signals. Normally this works OK. But when atmospheric conditions allow the signals to travel further, the stronger analogue signals drown out the weaker digital ones.
In theory, after switchover, once the analogue signals have gone, you are just left with high powered digital signals. But whilst tonight, Sudbury is affecting my reception of Freeview from Sutton Coldfield, and Crystal Palance my reception from Waltham (mux2/A), after switchover they won't be able to, because the frequencies will be different.
However, that is not to say it will be impossible. It appears that the PSB multiplexes are less likely to have co-channel issues compared to the COM multiplexes, looking at the proposed channel allocations.
I suspect the atmospheric conditions are not affecting western parts of the UK (post - switchover regions), but it would be interesting to hear if there are any issues in post-switchover regions.

Thanks very much for keeping us in the loop.
Thanks for posting, helps us all see where the problems are tonight.
Does your STB show any channel names for the Ch.34 service?
Just out of interest... anything back on analogue?
I keep scanning for foreign digital but nothing yet.
I did receive MUX1 on CH 34 on my LOG 40 10 ft off the ground,The transmitter name (south) presumably rowridge and on my rotatable triax aerial up on the roof on ch34 at the same time (oxon @ bucks) which is oxford.
I am currently receiving five analogue from oxford on CH 49 with a french signal floating in the background.

I can see this signal if I manually scan through the channels (moderate strength and quality, so it's a digital source) but a channel scan fails to add anything extra to the list. All very mysterious...
HD channels are currently transmitted at low-power from Lichfield, so will be prone to drop out.
BBC1/2 is on UHF channel 41, Fiver/Five USA is on UHF channel 47.
There's something affecting your signal on UHF channel 44, 51, 52 and 55.
Anyone experiencing drop out and who knows the UHF channel numbers of the digital multiplexes might want to switch to analogue and do a scan using the analogue tuner to see if an analogue signal is appearing on those UHF channels. With the help of the BBC reception website, you can work out with analogue transmitter is wiping out your digital signals from your local transmitter!
DON'T rescan unless necessary or you know what you're doing. It could mess your channel line up. Anyone with devices that automatically scan for new services should switch that function off for the duration of the atmospheric issues.
The forecast is for further high pressure for the next few days, so atmospheric issues may continue, but can come and go very quickly and be restricted to certain areas or can affect several regions at the same time. The atmospherics thread in the radio forum has more information on radio reception issues plus DX reception forecast websites such as the one listed in the post above this one. What's good for distance reception is bad for regular reception.

That's wiped out the fringe Sandy Heath signal here in the Lea Valley (I am in the CP coverage area, not SH).
Never seen it coming in so strong!
