No. Philip and Rob will stay but only behind the scenes - So your actually going to have a situation where the country's most knowledgeble broadcast meteorologist is sitting in the BBC unable to actually get on air!
But, as he is behind the scenes, his knowledge and skill should be available to compile and interpret the forecasts.
They should cull some at South Today. In the morning they get on for a minute or two once an hour. What's the point, let the brief forecast be read by the presenter as other times.
As for H. Willetts and C. Kirkwood, can anyone shut them up......please?
During Breakfast BBC London use three people, two women who share duties and then often they use the national forecaster as well. All could be done by the presenter.
One of those two is Kate Kinsella who,as I mentioned earlier, will be disappearing from our screens on maternity leave in the next few weeks. As for the other......you leave our Wendy alone!!!
Quite a shame. Rob McElwee was probably the best they had and wasn't afraid to bring a bit of science into the forecast. Perhaps they didn't like that.
He's been there years. Will be a shame to see him go

Do they not also do the weather on all the BBC local radio stations in the South Today area?

But why do they need three people to cover five days ?
I'm obviously in a tiny minority but I can't stand Rob McElwee. His mumbling style does my head in. I remember seeing an interview with him and Peter Cockroft years ago in which they both admitted they had massive egos, and I can imagine him being difficult to work with. Schafernaker has had a number of issues with regards to a lack of professionalism and certainly won't be missed by me either.
However Philip Avery is more of a loss. He has a great deal of warmth when presenting both on TV and Five Live.
The worst of the bunch for me is the appalling Carol Kirkwood, and I can only assume she must rate highly with Breakfast viewers. But I find her smile and style completely false and the way she refers to Bill Turnbull as "Billy" sets my teeth on edge.
McElwee was the last of the old guard, BBC Weather will never be the same after he goes.
Totally agree. He could put the weather across in a serious but understandable and light hearted way,if that makes sense ? He,along with Phillip will be very much missed.
Good luck Rob,I have always enjoyed your broadcasts.
I guess that leaves Dan Corbett now as the "Senior Hand" and while his style is not to everyones taste,I also find it very easy to listen to,and he gets the message over.
The standard of some of the other Presenters (female, sorry) does leave a lot to be desired. When you go to SOME of the local ones (BBC South springs to mind) the quality level slips even further.
So true i did open a thread about BBC using pregnant weahter girls a while back.I said they should work in the back room and not live on tv
Nice to see you are back at being sexist again! The last time you ventured down this route, you were, quite rightly, slammed for discriminating against women.
What is wrong with pregnant women being on television? Why should they not be seen in public Maltronics?

In the regions, you'll find each team has one meteorologist alongside 1/2 presenters who are trained in chart reading and script writing.
So on BBC South, Sara Thornton is the meteorologist, with Reham Khan and Alexis Green are the back-up presenters.
However many of these weather presenters are also used as presenters of weekend news bulletins.
The report mentions two more forecasters are also expected to move to an office role. Please let it be Carol Permasmile Kirkwood!
Carol is a Met Office qualified BBC employee, rather than a Met Office employee who works for the BBC like most BBC weather forecasters. That's why Carol does other bBC work such as The One Show and The Weather Show.

BBC North West doesn't have a proper meterologist. Diane and Heather were tv presenters who have done Met Office training, while Eno states things that you would be marked down for in GCSE Geography.

I see that none of the many pregnant weather girls have been given the boot !!!
Well for a start Becky Mantin and Kirsty McRae are ITV employees.
Well I think your comment is sexist and unprofessional I do think there is a problem when any company makes redundancies while a female employee is pregnant as companies don't want to risk possible legal action by sacking a pregnant employee.

If you mean Kirsty McCabe from Daybreak, at least ITV now have a second meteorologist who could be used on national bulletins if Martyn Davies decides to retire.

Sian Lloyd claims to be Met Office qualified but from previous posts on here people seem to doubt that.
Jon Mitchell, from ITV Yorkshire, is a Met Office employee and did a few national forecasts a few years back. I don't know why ITV use Alex Beresford ahead of him as I would have thought the national forecast could be done from Leeds if necessary. Jon's also a cheerful enthuaistic forecaster.
I'm not too sure if Lucy Verasamy is one too?
She's qualified but not via the Met Office. She did Geography & Earth Sciences at uni and did forecasts for MeteoGroup opposed to the Met Office before joining Sky.
Not surprised @ Schafernaker - loose cannon who has been unprofessional on air.
McElwee will be a loss. He is the only one [as another poster has already said] who actually treats the weather as a science rather than as a 21st century valet advising people what to wear.
I suspect Mr Schafernaker did not help his own cause by posing in gay magazines, the BBC does not like that sort of thing.
But why do they need three people to cover five days ?
Kate usually does Monday and Tuesday,Wendy does Thursday and Friday and they seem to split Wednesday morning between them. They use the national forecaster if whichever of them is meant to be on is off for some reason. Pete Cockroft does the lunchtime and evening bulletins but generally has Monday off when Wendy covers-she also covers his late shift if he's on holiday so if shes doing late shift or has a day off you'll get the national presenter on the days when she's normally on in the morning-or on Monday/Tuesday if Kate isn't around.
To be fair though,I don't know why Pete can't/doesn't work a five day week, nor why the two girls jobshare Breakfast between them. In any case Kate's on maternity leave soon so it will obviously change around somehow.

Perhaps they perform other duties elsewhere (behind the scenes) or maybe they actually work elsewhere? It's also possible taht they might wish to fulfil a part-time role, or find that a job-share fits their own personal home life (as is quite common with other jobshares in other businesses where 1 FTE is shared between 2 or sometimes 3 people)
Comments
Why do you say that? Can you expand on that so that we can more fully understand your reasoning please?

Agreed.
He should've been fired long ago.

Yes on the first count, especially Reham Khan who in my is not up to the mark at all.
Agreed totallly on the second point too as well !

There's a button on your remote for that, try it.
