Another one, Candle in The Wind by Elton John. Did not mind the original track about Marilyn Monroe on the Yellow Brick Road album, but the tribute version he put out for Diana was mawkish beyond belief. And that's the version that seems to get played these days .

'Blowing In The Wind' - by Bob Dylan is a tuneless dirge if ever I heard one.*

In fact, come to think of it, so is pretty much anything by Dylan.

    * The Neil Young version is ok though.

His strength is in songwriting more than performance or musicianship I feel

'Come On Eileen' - Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Guaranteed to make me switch a station over. I'd rather listen to 'Geno' or 'Show Me'.

Agree wholeheartedly on that one, it really drives me mad! It's one of those irritating cheesy songs that probably get played at weddings but I just cannot stand it. If I hear it on TV I will definitely switch over. Makes me want to throw something at my TV set.

Red Red Wine by UB40 - can't bloody stand it! It's so whiney (forgive the pun).

^ Certainly right up there for worst cover alongside the interminable Whitney Houston version of 'I Will Always Love You'

Neil Diamond's live version on the Greatest Hits (1966-1992) LP in a cod reggae stylee back in the nineties is hilarious - especially Neil's attempt to do Astro's toast section :D

    One from each decade :_

Peggy Sue - BUddy Holly ( overrated)
Cinderella Rockafella - Esther and Abi Ofarim ( risible )
Don't cry for me Argentina - Julie Covington ( soporific)
Two tribes - Frankie Goes to Holywood ( monotonous)
The drugs don't work - The Verve ( - could do better )
Is this the way to Amarillo ? - Tony Christie ( I'll get my coat )

I hate the lot of them . Just trying to be controversial as usual !

Cannot believe you agree with the Verve Barney ! :)

Not from me, although I have a bit of a soft spot for 'Two Tribes', I completely agree with the rest of your choices.

I'd add in anything by Bob Marley.
Just don't get it at all.
And I like my share of reggae, so it isn't the genre.

I also dislike a lot of Marley's music - only exceptions being Is this love? , Could you be loved and Jammin' .

Likewise not a fan of Dylan - agree that he is better as a composer than a recording artist .

I'm a big fan of reggae and find a lot of Marley's hits ordinary. Prefer angrier stuff like Get Up Stand Up and Concrete Jungle to tourism soundtracks like Three Little Birds. Probably one for the least favourite song round. Love his ska sides with the Wailers in the sixties for Coxsone Dodd though

Can't stand that song either, drives me absolutely bonkers! Whiny and soppy and guaranteed to make me reach for the sick bucket

Another one for the list, Lionel Richie with Hello, ghastly and not helped by the video. Has lost a lot of credibility for me now for those awful crisp adverts.

You can't afford credibility when you've got a very expensive divorce settlement to pay out.

'I Just Called To Say I Love You' by Stevie Wonder.

Not sure it's considered a classic or not - but I can't abide the bloody song and I love (nearly) everything Stevie has ever done.

I wouldn't say anyone considers it a classic.
    Wikipedia wrote:
It is one of Wonder's most simplistic and sentimental songs, and, with its quintessentially mid-1980s synthesizers and drum machines, is very different from his more organic and experimental 1970s music. For those reasons it was deprecated by critics. However, it was one of Wonder's most commercially successful singles to date.

The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys, it's very annoying!

    Absolutley LOVE this song!

Glad to see John Lennon - Imagine

That was the first song that came to my mind.

I totally agree with you on this one. Also, his other so called classic "Happy Birthday".

Others which have me throwing the radio in the wheelie bin are:

    Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
    Mustang Sally (any version)
Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
    everything by Duran Duran
    everything by Robbie Williams
Dancing Queen, Fernando, SOS and Mamma Mia by ABBA
I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly
    Hero by Mariah Carey
New York New York by Frank Sinatra
    Karma Chameleon by Culture Club
    everything by Whitney Houston
    Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush
The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush
    Chain Reaction by Diana Ross

There are probably numerous others but these will do for starters.

Agree with all those. Also not a fan of any Bon Jovi song.

What's the game exactly? Seems I'm the first one here to proffer Sweet Child O'Mine. When I hear the intro I just think Oh God here we go, 4 minutes of infathomably overrated screechy shite.

That's another one on my "dislike" list.
