Coronation Street also did well, with what would be its highest full slot Friday episode since February once HD is factored in

Didn't actually realise that, I guess in which case it did alright, although would have preferred it to be a tad higher.

Close between the News at Tens and the two main soaps last night. Corrie a tad low but good for Friday standards. How did The One Snow perform compared to usual Fridays?

Contrary to other opinion I find Robbie vs George hilarious, such well written and articulate arguments, I've certainly bookmarked a few classic posts. Robbie's second post about Corrie is genuinely hilarious, I laughed out loud despite being a fan :D

This thread would be dull without the pair of them.

In the same way that the over-55s make up The X Factor's single biggest demographic?

I wonder if Saga and Tenalady have snapped up lucrative slots for next weekend? :D

(PS: how good does it feel to type "next weekend" - yes, the end is finally, at last, we've nearly got there, in sight!)

I was talking about a rating from 23 YEARS AGO. WTF has the X FACTOR got to do with that!

    Yesterday's news ratings:

    BBC1 (inc. HD)
    06:00- Breakfast: 1.94m (39.5%)
    13:00- BBC News: 3.35m (35.9%)
    18:00- BBC News at Six: 5.74m (26.5%)
    18:30- BBC Regional News: 7.42m (32.1%)
    22:00- BBC News at Ten: 4.91m (21%)

    ITV1 (exc. HD)
    06:00- Daybreak: 844k (19.2%)
    08:30- Lorraine: 1.16m (17.5%)
    13:30- ITV News and Weather: 1.48m (15.7%)
    18:00- ITV Regional News: 4.26m (19.7%)
    18:30- ITV News and Weather: 4.23m (18.1%)
    22:00- ITV News at Ten: 4.23m (18.3%)

Pretty poor shares for the ITV breakfast programmes.

Also after a pretty underwhelming start last week, ITV4's Ashes Highlights ratings have gone up. Yesterday's highlights averaged 656k at 10pm.

Yeah I imagine that would be a reason why they're up. Interesting though that it's well up from last Monday's highlights rating (390k) which was a good day for England too.

I wonder if ITV1 really need a second Coronation St on a Friday as the traditional 7.30pm episode pulled in a respectable 9.18 million viewers. A decent, big rating alternative like the jungle disproves the need for the extra episode. However, if ITV didn't get a hit for this slot, then they would say we'll have you know who back in it.

Yes I think 3 weeks of soaps and celebrity has brain washed the audience into sticking with ITV for News at Ten,

Id like to know how One Shows viewing went over its hour-over 5 million is pretty good though it did have the lovely Kylie on which will have beena draw for some.

Personally i think George and Robbies exchanges on here should be released in book form for a wider audience ;). They are a good read.

    Thanks RZT.

One Show lost a bit when Coronation Street came on but overall thats a pretty good response to the soaps on ITV. If the plan was to create something that would regularly pull a decent non-soap audience then One Show is ideal.

As I've said before, the BBC doesn't lie down and die in front of ITV's big hitters like it did in the past. However, the BBC did in the eighties provide an alternative to Coronation St like Blake's Seven, which pulled in 9 million viewers, but often the slot was filled with American imports on their last legs and was a way of killing off Doctor Who.

Daybreak seems to have fallen back rather quickly from the ''record audience'' which wasn't a record at all that ITV were boasting about yesterday but the snow factor is still telling, particularly with the BBC regional news at 6.30

My ratings estimates for tonight, bearing in mind there's a lot of snow about and one big show is finishing tonight.
    Strictly 11.8m
    TXF 14.5 m
    IAC 10.0m

It'll be interesting to see where C4 put it following the mid-season break - knowing C4 in exactly the same slot. Can't see them bumping it to 11pm, but could be an option at 8pm against the soaps as I doubt, being a US network broadcast, it needs to be post-watershed.

Anyway, picked up the Christmas TV guide now on the off-chance Digiguide was one big joke - but no. Maybe I'm being too ITV friendly, but I think with a slightly stronger schedule they could have put up more of a challenge on Christmas Day this year - basically by going for ratings grabbers:

    6.00pm Emmerdale
7.00pm The X-Mas Factor - really wouldn't be too difficult to film a special in the days after the final. Not a competition, but more of a Christmassy themed showcase with a couple of big guests. There is the risk it would fail, but TXF rarely fails head to head with Strictly.
8.00pm Take Me Out or The Cube - keep it entertainment based as an alternative to EastEnders, but something younger trending than All Star Family Fortunes
9.00pm Coronation Street - sure it would do better against The Royal Family than Strictly
10.00pm Harry Hill's Christmas TV Burp - OK, it's not what it was but I think for many when faced with Walliams and Lucas or Harry Hill, they'd opt for Harry Hill.

Benidorm could play at 10.30pm to pull viewers away from the BBC who've given up for the night, but it's probably more useful to ITV elsewhere in the schedules.

Zen has been added to the week 1 programme information on the BBC Press Office, so that should be starting on the 2nd January.

Over 10m for IAC is fantastic for the semi final. I expect had the final been last night we'd have been looking at 11m, so with an XF lead in we could be looking at huge figures tonight, especially with the shorter running time!

Corrie slightly lower than the other episodes this week, but still should have a strong week next week.

I'd still go for 10 million, as it's not as popular as TXF. However, this sort of rating is still very respectable for a genre of programming ( celeb reality) that seems to have stalled in recent years. I wonder if because IAC has removed the bad language that often blights these shows it has more of a family audience. Certainly it has seen off all its rivals and I reckon IAC could last another three series.

Absolutely!! Been saying that for ages. I'm sure it's had a similar effect on The Apprentice too.

I'm amazed how little bleeping there is in The Apprentice. It looks to me that in the past they were encourged to swear.
