Personally I might quite like a religious argument on my deathbed. It'd be cool to have a couple of religious witnesses to the fact that still I thought they were talking utter nonsense even as I died
Before the Gregorian calendar was adopted in this country in 1752, who knows? But December 25th being just a few days after the Solstice today means you are celebrating the onset of longer hours of daylight, rather than the Solstice itself.
Make your mind up D you just said even atheists would not want him around in their time of need and now you want him doing death bed calls.
Dawkins is a bad, bad man and we can now add not visiting the death beds of atheists to the long list of his failings. If he ever does, we'll have him for that as well. He's just bad. Really, really bad.
And I believe (ooo, a faith argument) that he smells too.
As an athiest how does religion affect you in your day to day life?
In a small way I cannot go Tesco's on a Sunday evening at 5pm when I have run out of sugar.
In a much more serious way, although I am never going to need an abortion and don't live in Ireland, that would affect somebody's life greatly for the time being. There are many other little ways such as being forced to endure the views of religious people on our way of life amongst all the relevant experts.
Thats if you accept that all truth is confined to what is measurable. How would you account for the beauty of Shakespeare's language, the Mona Lisa and Schubert's C minor string quintet?
Forget Shakespeare, make it Mozart's etudes and preludes, Grieg's piano concerto and perhaps a Lowry or Rothko, and I accept this. But what does it have to do with god or religious belief? I as an atheist like those things without it. Those are deeply rooted in consciousness and emotion, which science doesn't have a good description of yet either.

You would think the Church's would be keen to provide Hospital Chaplains. It appears they are not.
he'd go up in my estimation if he did that for people:)

That certainly seems to be the case. I wonder why?
Maybe it's her sadistic side coming out - she thinks we'd hate it and wants us to suffer right until the end

I wont thanks atg. It's already flared up once and posts were removed so I'll just leave it there, if that's alright with you.

Also, get rid of the bishops from Westminster.
I knew there was a reason I live in Scotland
Which Church do you mean?
Any of them.
PS Thanks for the Happy Birthday message.
The Abbey? the Cathedral? or both?
It's OK. I forgive you.
Aren't they on call when needed? The RC ones are free of charge, but can accept donations. I'm not sure about the others..
(You're welcome)
Ta...
No that would not make sense :D
Yes; I am sure they will visit but in the context of the debate I was talking about the Churchs paying for Hospital Chaplains;
As far as I know they do not contribute anything to any such service or provision.
