Doesnt really bother me tbh, there was no suitable alternative this year. Biffy Clyro will at least be raking it in, which is nice.

I'm not a fan of Rihanna in the slightest, but I think I would have prefered her.

What's nice about a "trendy" band selling out for the Cowell shilling?

    It's bloody depressing.

1999 Westlife "I Have A Dream" / "Seasons in the Sun"
2000 Bob The Builder "Can We Fix It?"
2001 Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman "Somethin' Stupid"
2002 Girls Aloud "Sound of the Underground"
2003 Michael Andrews & Gary Jules "Mad World"

"2003 Michael Andrews & Gary Jules "Mad World"

That's a great song - very non-Christmas in tone too.

Ah, the days when a record company executive would just manufacture a band and hype them to hell, instead of getting air time on ITV and having a 4 month long advert masquerading as a talent contest.

I don't see why it would make any difference to the music that Biffy Clyro themselves make, so I don't see it as depressing at all.

Mad World and Sound Of The Underground were good, I'm still anonoyed JCB Song was held off by Shayne Ward though:mad:. Was SOTU the first Xmas No.1 to come from a X-Factor style show, think so

They didn't just take the dosh, they publically stuck up for the show.

I'm sure one was entirely coincidental to the other.

Again, though, why would that make any difference to the music that Biffy Clyro produce in the future?

Girls Aloud 'Sound of the Underground' was the original 'X-Factor' Christmas number one.

I don't recall saying it would.

It's depressing however to see a supposedly credible act drop their drawers for Cowell. Even to the extent of allowing song title changes. That's depressing.

Well as far as I'm aware they wouldnt have had to agree to their song being used, or even the dropping of part of the original title, so there's no evidence that they did actually willllingly agree to any of this.

Personally I can't see how this would have any impact at all on Biffy Clyro, so I can't see a reason to get depressed over anything.

I think the poster put X Factor in inverted commas to suggest it was the first of that type of show to be Number 1.

CDP Act asserts the moral right of a creator of a work, so even if they had no say over the licensing of the track (doubtful), they would have over the change of title.
