I'm sorry the trial is over -what an entertainment it has been! I shall never forget the che guevara poster, the doughnuts and whisky miniatures, the sacked QC, the psychic's warnings, the hairy back, the Sheridan tears and heartstring pulling...
It was three ring circus of a trial.
But how stupid he was - if he;d just put his hands up when the NoW first published and said he was sorry, it would all have been forgotten by now. That really is a pity - he was a good MSP in his day.

Unless he really honestly was innocent, who knows?
- hunger strike
- the request for political prisoner status
- the Tommy is innocent / Free Tommy campaign
- the conspiracy theory suggesting it was all a Murdoch/"security services" stitch -up (awiats fredc)

Don't forget he'll probably try and stand as a candidate for the local elections next year from inside
With all the charges being dropped over the course of the trial he came close to getting off. Although totally agreed with his principles during the poll tax and him going to jail fo it I think of the years he has started to believe his own hype.
One of his biggest mistakes was going on Big Brother as it showed a unpleasant side to him.
The real story here is that £millions of public money has been spent funding a criminal case in order to maintain the "good name" and "reputation" of the NOTW (and to save the paper's owner £200,000 in the process).
Ask yourself this - would the authorities have been so quick to fund a perjury prosecution had the roles been reversed?

I don't think so.
It's in the public interest to prosecute a lying politician no matter what the cost financially, or to your left wing movement
I think the important lesson in this is never trust an extreme socialist! The way the knives came out as well as them putting their stories up for sale was breathtaking and ended the party's chance of being elected here in Scotland again.

We certainly can't claim political bias. His own people lined up to dish the dirt and we've had our fair share of jailed right wing politicians.
I was surprised when he won the original trial as like then as now there is far too much muck been spread for some of the story not to be true. Either that or he's made too many enemies over the years that have all been very good at colluding lies against him.

I voted for him once...

Doubt it , it is only Friday
Believed he was innocent ? he either was or he wasn't - belief has nothing to do with it. No, he was just arrogant.
The courts don't mess about when it comes to perjury.
He can write a book and prepare for his big come back(so he thinks) in three years time then!:D
And he has a criminal record, which won't help him - jailed for contempt of court in the days of the poll tax protests.

Taxi for Tulip!!!
Hope he rots.

Also comparing the recent pics to the ones from the original trial, I'd say the last couple of years have taken a toll on his wife.
