I am having my dx780 upgraded next week with this offer am a little cOncerned because sky thought I still had my thompson which was replaced a year and half ago by sky. Can the engineer refuse to exchange it even though the call centre still booked it in?
remove the box before the engineer arrives, tell you gave it away.
My box was a multi-room and not having HD Subscription. So the offer was Self-Install - they waived the £15 charge and upgraded the box to HD Subscription - first three months free by which time it's September and there will no longer be an additional charge anyway!
The old box is still working - sometimes it won't output on Scart or through the RF. HDMI is fine.
Due to get the new box by Wednesday but the subscription is already updated on the old box.
I asked how much for a 1TB box and was told as I have one already it would be £249!
I've just phoned to take them up on the offer and after going through the security questions etc., was told that actually I couldn't get the deal as I don't have Sky Broadband!
I've never had Sky Broadband but did get the letter a couple of days ago!
Don't know if its just the CS person I spoke to or not. I'm going to try doing it online and see what happens!!
I didn`t get any letter from them so i thought i`d just phone and see what they said. It seems i can have a replacement because i have a thompson. just in time as mine is on its last legs. i didn`t know my box only had a 120gb in it, thought it was more. new one should be a lot faster. They also didn`t say anything about having to have HD pack for 12 months. i have broadband even though its only 2gb a month.
I got a letter today (and I could use the link posted a few days ago) - all despite Jeremy Darroch's office saying I can't have a swapout because I don't have Sky Broadband.

It's a 300GB drive, but IIRC 140GB is devoted to Anytime (whether it is on or off).

Surley Sky would know if you had Sky Broadband, would be a bit stupid of them to send you a letter for a free HD box upgrade, if they knew you couldn't get it. I have tried it online and have completed the order, I haven't got Sky Broadband either.

Indeed, typical Sky CS TBH
I've sorted it online and it let me go through and I've picked an installation date etc. so hopefully its all sorted.
Just need to decide what I'm going to do in terms of my current HDD, recordings, and whats in the new box.

You'e think so, wouldn't you ! I don't have Sky BB ... but I got the letter. I think that it's a case of left hand and right hand.

But in doing this have you now, either explicitly or implicitly, opted for an "upgrade" to Sky Broadband ? The T&Cs are clear (albeit small) that the offer is applicable to "Sky TV Customers with Sky Broadband in Sky network area only".

how do you know theres no aditional charge in september .
well i have not got skybroadband and they are coming to fit new box wed.
if they say you must have broadband then i will charge them for a days pay.
like you say they can see you not got sky broardband so why did they accept the order(half want them to say this, then i make them squirm a bit).
will post the outcome when its over.
Well they said to me i can see your on the 2gb limit. So if the offer is on condition you have to be on BB then they shouldn`t be offering it to people who don`t have it.
I rang Sky this morning. After waiting over 5 minutes on hold the first thing the operator said was that you must have Sky broaband.
I thought it was to good to be true and it is. Sky would charge you for the oxygen we breathe if they thought they could get away with it.
Like some of the others, I booked on line and they sent me an email asking me to ring.
It's booked for the 15th july, I don't have sky BB and have no intention of getting it. Nice lady on the phone confirmed that there is no cost for the box and no change t o my monthly payments.

I had the letter yesterday, the Thomson box is a multiroom that doesn't have an HD subscription.
I do have Sky broadband but only Connect as I am not in their network area.
The website accepted my order and I was able to add the HD subscription, free for 3 months, so if it is correct that come September multiroom HD element will be free then the total cost will be £ 0.00.
The account was updated overnight so I now have HD on the Thomson and the new box is being fitted next Sunday.
I just hope I can keep the Thomson and it's 1Tb drive.
I have received email confirmation that my order has been accepted so everything looks fine.

Sky have told me I can keep my old box..
Really, wonder why they let you do that? Surely it will look odd with just the cables hanging from the plasma with nothing attached when he arrives?

I asked about changing to 1TB box at the same time, first he said 'it is the 1TB box we swap it with'!, then said it would £169.

The guy i was talking to said the one im getting is 500gb.
I was referring to the Thomson box.
He told me its its one of the older ones and that it was 120. Newer one should run better though. the PSU on mine was going so i needed another.

Customer Services confirmed the charge will apply to the first box only.

I've got a thompson box in the shed - used while psu was away being sorted. I kept it as a spare.
Can I give them that one?
I've just phoned Sky to ask if I could use my current HD box as a replacement for my Sky+ box in the bedroom instead of having it taken away.
He said that would be OK and put a note on the system for the installer when he comes tomorrow morning.
Why the heck are sky not consistent? I would like to keep mine but they said it must be swapped. I tried to do a self install but they said no.
