Is it right to sneer at people with double-barrelled names without any knowledge of these people's backgrounds?
This is the story in question:

Can the gutter press stoop any lower?
he news broke over night that three gap year students were killed on their gap year adventure to Thailand. Bruno Melling-Firth, Conrad Quashie and Max Boomgaarden-Cook, all 19, died when their bus travelling to Chiang Mai collided with another bus. A tragedy and a nightmare scenario for thousands the parents of thousands of students travelling around the world every year. There have been outpourings of sympathy from across the media today, with one exception – one Guardian class crusader:

Think her days at the Guardian will be numbered...
No it's not and in this case a sincere apology won't wash away the stain. Shocking - really shocking.
Imagine the outcry if a white person had said "I actually smiled when I saw they had middle eastern surnames"
Absolutely shocking
I could probably understand it had they been scum bags who had caused untold misery to people but still even then I'd sympathise with their families.
No it's never right.
I wonder in she's a believer in Karma? If not, I suspect she could change her views after being hopefully wrung out to dry after this.
What else is there to say about such a low specimin as this other than crawl back under the rock you came from.
Sympathy to the families and just hope they don't find out about these tweets.
Maybe she should have read the words of the bereaved father. Most eloquently, he described the emotions of losing a child. Reading these words alone should have tempered her response.
Maybe she should live by the old adage; if you can't say something kind or supportive, say nothing at all.
No and in point of fact those kids had saved up for the trip -
Probably - but normally I would not describe the Guardian as gutter press.
Jeez when will middle class lefties acknowledge that having a posh sounding name does not automatically make one a member of the Tory party, countryside alliance, capitalism, hunting, etc. Indeed the irony of scoffing at other people's 'poshness' when the accusors are often hardly council estate dwellers themsleves appears lost on them!
Besides, for all we know one or all those killed could've been, well, middle class lefties! Again though, class is hardly relevant in this rather sad case.
Btw, I laughed at Abdullah's 'moody' Guardian photo. Presumably the moody look is meant to imply intelligence and deep thinking! Nice try love.
*awaits inevitable 'Kia Abdullah Appreciation Thread' from Phoenix*
A small minded newspaper for small minded lefties.
Thouroughly absorbent in a toilet paper emergency though ......
It's more than "bad taste" it's spite aimed at people who are currently in enormous amounts of anguish and pain already (the families).
I would think you'd have to be pretty desperate to touch the bitch with a barge pole. If this is how she reacts to people she doesn't even know, imagine the viciousness she could unleash on somebody who slighted her personally.
What I find puzzling is a lot of the Grauniad's clientele/readership have double barrelled names. Also after watching QT last night I wondered how did that awful Toynbee ever get involved in serious political debate? No wonder private eye take the p*ss out of her.
Ad hominem all the way eh?
I note that she has now apologised for being "very stupid" and "very heartless" and that she "really should know better". Better late than never and hopefully she will not be so foolish in the future. Nobody can defend such a foolish statement.
As for whether the gutter press can stoop any lower? Yes they can and do so on a regular basis. The likes of the Mail and Sun, in particular, and you only have to look at the Mail's lead story on their website (which will be read by millions more than some insignificant woman's twitter page) trying to blame striking teachers for the tragic accidental death of a 13 year old girl to see how low they will sink.
If you say so Biffa.
Next thing you'll be saying that the Daily Telegraph is responsible for Boris Johnson saying "vicarious victimhood" about the people of Liverpool or Petronella Wyatt's abortion.
And nor do I see anywhere that this is a common attitude among people who read the Guardian - as others have said it has a lot of double-barrelled name.
And what do people think of Order-Order of having a headline that is simply untrue?
