To me the episode showed the intensity of the relationship Jack was in with Angelo. It wasn’t a one night stand, but what Jack was hoping would become a long term relationship (or as much as possible due to Jacks condition). The first scenes were used to show the build up which allowed Jack to be vulnerable for the future attack. Not expecting it from the one person he fully trusted with all his heart! Without any of that, the finale with the kidnappers would have made no sense.
The enjoyable, interesting and relevant stuff in that episode could have been done in 5-10 minutes.
I have to admit, I do enjoy it when somebody is introduced to amazing futuristic technology, and is told about the future etc... but that wasn't really explored much. The whole back story seemed like an excuse for gay sex scenes.
There wasn't exactly much tension in the kidnapping of Gwen's family either.
That was quite a weird episode. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really feel like anything in it related to the storyline at all right until the end when the guy's name was mentioned.
Just a personal feeling and should not be taken as an insult to anyone, but I just find watching gay relationships uncomfortable, so it was quite an uncomfortable watch.
This isn't prejudice or anything, it's just a personal feeling, that I can't help but feel.
On a brighter note, I went all geeky at the mention of the Trickster's Brigade!

That's what I thought. I also assume that the earlier scene between Jack and the waiter, were supposed to highlight the special relationship between Jack and Angelo.
I loved all the little nods to the Doctor and there were some pretty good jokes in it as well.
errmmmmm, what the **** was that episode all about, i felt like i was watching a gay porn movie, didn't really learn anything new, apart from some wierd snake from another planet, complete waste of an episode...........
Well - after watching tonights episode - the only theory I can come up with is - that Angelo has somehow managed to change the past to create a future whereby Jack becomes mortal - and thus - Jack will be able to be with Angelo, since his reason for leaving him was because he was immortal.
But then how the hell has Angelo managed to live this long :D
Nice to see Rex and Esther do their first intelligent thing this week. Did enjoy this one and is one of the few episodes this series I've bothered to watch at both US pace and when the BBC finally bothered to show it
Next week Q with a beard, the writers finally remember Bill Pullman has a staring credit and hopefully we finally find out just what is actually going on
If they were so sure that Jack would come at the mention of Angelo's name, why would they need to kidnap Gwen's family?
Worst. Episode. Ever.
Funny you mention that. This is what I quoted in the starz pace thread at the start of the week:
Torchwood has completely lost its identity and trying to morph itself into other different sci fi / fantasy shows.
This particular episode had a major "Angel" feel to it. In fact the whole concept is pretty much a rip off. The whole flashback scenario to establish a current day enemy, The Triangle organisation.. Wolfram & Hart spring to mind.
Since when has Jack become so selfish to want to live at all costs... Have I been watching a different show? I would have thought he would sacrifice himself to protect Gwen and her family.
Why go to all the effort of kidnapping gwens family... blackmailing her... Also how stupid are these guys to have the tech to infiltrate the grid but forget to clear the cache.
Lazy writing, Lazy ideas... I will be watching the last 3 episodes as I want a resolution to this story. I want Torchwood to return to either its original format or wholly UK produced.
This starz thing aint working and I would rather they put an end to it than produce such low quality rip off stuff again
Agreed that the back story feels like an excuse for the "controversial" gay sex scenes. I don't have a problem with it myself, but even if it were a heterosexual couple, it would have been too much!
You simply don't need all the sex to portray a love story.
The last 5 minutes or so were brilliant. I still enjoyed the episode but it (Jack's story) was all just too much.
I felt the ending was a big let-down. The breakdown of the trust between Jack and Gwen on the car journey was really well done, but then they were reconciled with a hug?! I thought after all the buildup of the mysterious villains hacking into her contacts, and last week's cliffhanger, the strangers at the other end would at least be less easy to defeat
The pacing irritated me. I'm glad there's not many episodes left now because as much as like Miracle Day it feels like its been spread thinly over many episodes.

if that's how you feel, then that's how you feel. From my own point of view, I find gay relationships totally comfortable - I found out recently my Daughter is in one - but I understand how others feel differently...

Didn't learn anything new?
- Angelo involved in Miracle Day
- the 3 men who 'bought' jack had a 'triangle' handshake,
- The blood collected from Jack - maybe important in miralce plot?
- insight into relationship bewteen Jack & Gwen
- insight into Jacks character, including just how terrible jacks condition (immortality) can be.
Gay porn? we didn't actually see anything except a bit of backside! If thats what you think is porn then what do you call scenes in shows with bare boobs, d**k and c*nt?
Much as I found the sex scenes difficult to watch, I still found that to be an excellent episode.
I freely admit that I hate almost all of what RTD did to Doctor Who, but this episode shows that he can write first class sci-fi. If only his four series of Who had been this good.
the writing for this episode was poor , completely off the story , but the gay scenes were nice though too bad it's not Queer as Folk cause i loved that show
However this episode of Torchwood was one of the weakest episodes ive seen out of the entire series so far!

The best part was the final 5 minutes!

But the end reveal, that Angelo is behind this (presumably to end death as a way to avenge his love for jack), left me quite happy about it.

He has managed to bring about Miracle Day, where nobody dies!

RTD didn't write this episode.
I thought it was one of the best yet
