I can just see Sir Jim arriving at the Pearly Gates and St Peter saying to him "now then, now then, as it 'appens...."

RIP Sir Jim. A true one-off. May you keep fixing it 'up there'.

..........and possibly saying 'I'll give you two points for the name anda bonus for the correct title'!! RIP.

My tip off was from my partner via a news feed to a national radio station, have no clue how the Beeb will put it out there.
So you haven't actually seen and heard it on BBC television?

He was a miner at the same pit as my dad . Jimmy once said of the time he worked there "I went down as a boy and came up as a man'' In later life he went down as a man and came up a boy. Allegedly. http://www.healeyhero.co.uk/rescue/Bevin/bevin2.htm#savile

He was indeed a bizarre eccentric trailblazer. He dressed like a 'chav' before it was fashionable and didn't seem to give a toss about what others thought of him. He raised a lot of money for charity and was always entertaining viewing, although he was never a favourite of mine.

However, I do think there will be a smattering of stories in the media about his life.

Jimll Fix It will be etched onto the memories of an entire generation and was immensely popular at its peak with audiences reaching 20 million. And being there at the start and then turning out the final light switch on TOTP.
Like him or not you certainly could not ignore him-one of the great tv and radio characters of the pre-satellite era.

You seem to be strangely obsessed with where it will appear on the BBC.

Yes they did. One was an allusion to events on one of the channel islands which also involved a British statesman of the 1970s and the actor who played Albert Steptoe (allegedly). Google it to see for yourself.

Nothing of which has ever been substantiated it should be pointed out. Easy to besmirch people when they can't answer back.

It probably won't be on Radio 2 until the news comes on at 4pm - most of their weekend shows are recorded.

Why are people obsessed with where the news broke? He's definitely dead!

Really??? As big a legend as he is to us radio folks it's not worth breaking into a show for. I don't think "bong old guy dies" is really a big story. He'll still be dead at the top of the hour when there's a news bulletin.

Wouldn't have thought so, they're probably only in their 30s and 40s by now.
