There was something very fresh about Magic when they had very little production, no flashy promos and the presenters reading the news.
Soft AC radio really works in big markets when you cut the clutter and act as an antidote. See New York for further details...in a city renowned for Urban and CHR radio, WLTW-FM whoops ass.
Magic needs to re-visit its USP. It might even like to consider dropping the celebrity presenters (controversial I know!)

It does but Lite FM is no longer the 'lite' station it used to be.
AC is much more hotter than it was 5 years ago and its not uncommon to hear artists like the Black Eyed Peas, P!nk, Lady Gaga & Taio Cruz. The standard AC songs are still there though (Aeromsith, Adele, Phil Collins, Foreigner etc etc) but there is also a big crossover with CHR now. http://www.1067litefm.com/iplaylist/playlist.html?last10=1

Good point. It looks more like Heart these days; interesting how it's evolved over that time.
Too much fluff on Magic now with promos left, right and centre. And you're right about a database cull too. I wonder if it's still "the taxi driver's choice" in London? That was always the yardstick!
Smooth's large, unfocussed playlist has resulted in a tiny audience.
If anything, Magic needs to tighten its playlist further. At the moment, there are too many weak songs and too much clutter.
That said, Magic is hardly "falling quicker than a meteorite".
It is only just behind Capital and Heart in London, having been London's number one commercial radio station for a good while.
Would be a shame if Smooth tightened it's playlist and are now slowly increasing share in London (so not quite tiny), but still less than a third of Magic's share.
These graphs are interesting and show Magic is the top commercial station in the evenings. http://pauleaston.blogspot.com/
OMG Magic is running the DFS competition and had a women on from Wales. It does show the station picks listeners for these competitions outside London. Just wonder what the London and South East listeners would feel if someone from out of those areas won Mystery Voices?:D

Of course they do, if they only picked winners from London they'd be in big trouble.

In all the taxis I've been in recently, they had Magic on.
Nov 25th seems to be the new acceptable date for starting to play Christmas songs. Suppose its four weeks away and they are starting with 1 per hour in week one before stepping it up as it get nearer.

You'd normally start on a really low rotation, this early on I'd have gone 2 or 3 per day at most almost as spot plays. Then 1 or 2 per show,1 Per hour and then loads. By Christmas eve it's every second song and then after Boxing Day they've dropped right back down.
Why does Magic on Sky and Freeview play an extra music instead of adverts before the news, then a minute of adverts, where FM plays full lot of adverts?
Because the adverts you hear on Sky have been sold as Nationals to go out on Freeview. The others who just pay for be on 105.4 freq are not sent. Its like a splits system but to freeview, with short song edits being played. They will have a bank of songs 2 mins 2:30 3mins etc to fit the length of the local ad break.

Like it or not, the MMV "Magic's Mystery Voices" will have them back on top next quarter.

Magic regularly promotes the fact that it is available across the UK on TV, online and on DAB.
Christmas? Yes most other stations do it too
Apart from the BBC as they think the listeners dont like them.
