I live a mile from the Coryton refinery that is going bankrupt.
it took me 30 mins to get any today and right now theres a run on the pumps.
my best mate works for Vopak that runs from west thurrock and he say they they will not be able to make up the short full as sometimes even they have to fill up Coryton.
theres not just the rear that my area is going to be hit very hard by the loss of 1000 jobs but also that its going to cost hell of a lot more to fill up.
Stanford le hope (that covers corringham) is a small are and abuout 60% that live here are working at the refinery or jobs linked to it.
why the Gov did not step in to sort this out before xmas is a joke

Some might consider that fast work.
not when it only ever take on min, 25 cars in line for one pump.
As for there being a run on the pumps, that is only going to make matters worse - people that dash out and panic buy fuel are being selfish and greedy, and are actually causing more of a problem by their actions.
You have to wonder how much they have had to reduce their profit margins over the years due to the increases in taxation etc for them to end up in the situation that they are in though.
As BP are the largest customer why don't they buy the refinery.
It does beg the question of what is the financial state of other refineries
I suppose it was a rather feeble attempt at humour, but it was based upon the fact that, in the original post, we were not told "any" of what.
it may seem unlikly to happen, but what if one of the foreign owned electricity companys went bankrupt and pulled the plug?
It looks like their financial problems are related to debt - looks like they overreached before the crash and coudn't service the debt.
Assuming there's nothing wrong with the Coryton Refinery (which considering it supplies 20% of the South East is unlikely) it'll probably be snapped up by someone else at a bargain price from the administrators. To get the best price, the administrators will keep the refinery open until its sold. So the workers aren't out of a job just yet and the vast majority will likely keep their job in the long run.
pmsl....they sold it to them in the first place, it WAS BP.
well 3 of the 4 local stations have now run dry.
Stanford station was on Sky news tonight.....that felt strange seeing the owner on tv lol.
the problem is that are already two other Refinerys up for sale and have been for the last year and still not been sold.
Virgin was going to buy it from BP years ago for aviation fuel.
I think it will just end up and a storagesite for shiped in fuel like vopak in west thurrock.
but if you are in the SE i would fill up.
If petrol pumps are running dry then there is demand. If there is demand, other refineries will increase supply to make up the shortfall.
Honestly..
It dont work like that , Take Vopak at west Thurrock, they do places like Jet, asda. it already takes 2 hours for a tanker to fill up there, I think its about 5 takers at a time, they just line up to fill up, untill today if they were running low they would send them the 6 miles up the road to Corringham.
Vopack get it shiped in from over seas.
now places like BP have to try an now get there tanker a place to fill up at Vopak, that will push the time up to around 4 hours, this will see stations in the south east start to run out.
It cost more to ship it in so you will end up paying more at the pump in the end.
Other places will up their out put but how much do you think its going to up the cost to drive a tanker from Liverpool to drop off in Essex.
Prices will go up and that will hit us all,
we in Thurrock are getting a bit peed off with the Gov, first they dump a super port down the road, then they wish to build an airport down the road and now there 1000 jobs to go when they knew this was going to happend before xmas and did nothing.
what could they have done, hell of a lot, they saved RBS, they should step in and up and the Refinery untill a buyer is fpund, all last week it was only working at 40%. now its at a stop.
The government should not be keen to let it be seen they are doing nothing about that.
Last night there were rumours that petrol pumps in nearby Southend-on-Sea had run dry.
Motoring experts warned petrol and diesel prices could rise by up to 3p per litre by the end of the week. Brian Madderson of the RMI Petrol Retailers Association said: "There's no doubt about it."
Shell sent ten tankers from Coryton to the Midlands for supplies. Texaco moved its fleet of tankers to another depot in Kent.
One driver told The Sun: "This will bring the South to a standstill. We went in last night to load up and the gates were locked.
"I haven't seen this since the fuel blockade 12 years ago."
Coryton was sold by BP to Petroplus in 2007 for £750million
Local Reporters say,
1 station shut in Stanford le hope
2 shut in southend (no desiel)
2 shut in East london(no desiel)
1 shut in Chelmsford(no desiel)
1 shut in Brentwood
3 lows on Desiel in Romford
Wouldn't surprise me if BP buy it back for pennies. I'm sure there is a scam involved in there somewhere.
not happy.
Of course though, any reason for petrol station profiteering.
only 10% of tankers left today. i can also tell you that i have seen none...the road is at the bottom of my road lol
they will put the prive up anyway now, such a rip off.
