I've been watching ED for years and it has never been so downbeat. I started watching last night and in the middle of the episode, I just got up and started vaccuming the lounge, it was that riveting.
So Ali can't reads and write, good, she won't come on here then and have a go at us like Betty Eaggleton. Is this another ploy to make us feel sorry for her? If so it hasn't worked in our house, the general consensus was that if she is illiterate, then get off her ass and LEARN to read.
Mr Blackburn, stop trying to make the skanky little runt that is Sean likeable. I was almost sick when he apologised to Mr Turner. Alan is too much of a gentleman to tell him to bu**er off. I would though.
Aida, I too am warming to Alex, although I don't think he is "drop dead gorgeous" as vaucous Vic thinks, but I think he is a better actor than either the Golden Teardop or Adumb combined, love the names blw. Unfortunately, every time I see him I am reminded of Mr Aida;s comment about modelling balaclavas!:D:D
I think that must be all of three "nuances" I have missed, put it down to the fact that I am a product of State school edukashun, I don't know my nuance from my subtley.:o:o:o
I read this thread with quite a big interest so i think its time for me to start contributing to it! :):)
I'm actually dreading to see what stuff Stuart Blackburn is gonna come out with on that interview if its gonna be as bad as his last one i think we'll need to start making those Picket Signs! :D:D
Hi JR, I read the daily but rarely contribute as I don't watch the episode live as it were, I always on watch +1 or the next day, it certainly makes me smile though. I love the fact that people can love or hate a character but it doesn't matter. I always read the thread between 7.30 and 8 and ponder on some comments but of course when I watch it, it all becomes clear, yes mad I know
Your posts have had me grinning from ear to ear and nodding like a crazy dog because of your brilliant summing up.
I'm with you on the dementia angle but also wondered if it could be schizophrenia.
Thank you, kind sir or madam - thank you and welcome to the thread if I haven't said that already!
Yes, I can certainly see why schizophrenia might seem an appropriate diagnosis, particularly the apathy and withdrawal from others - but Zak's a little bit too old for the onset - it usually becomes apparent in late adolescence/ early twenties! Not impossible, though - and good reasoning!
I have yet to see another, more passionless 'affair' than the one we were treated to by this pair. And when did Laurel become such a snob?! Didn't she enter the village originally as a village idiot, dressed in some bizarre costume?
She did - she was dressed as a bee, working as a singing telegram and suffering acute appendicitis!

Bib: Laughing - I think the hubba just said that to make me laugh and stop ranting - the lad actually has nice, regular features and very nice eyes - it's the shaved head that makes him look ugly!
I also wish they'd give him more to do, he had a nice, light, warm comedy touch when he indulged in a spot of banter with Pearl in the cafe a while ago - I just don't like him being stuck with Vacuous Vic because I don't like her or the ghastly way she seems to try to turn her face inside out when she talks - I also don't like the way she talks to other villagers, that's not being 'feisty', it's just plain rude - but, of course, what can you expect from her when even an attempt to burn down the family home was met with Diane's all-embracing cry of, "Aww, it's not her fault - she's just a kid!"

Hello and welcome - I 'know' you from t'Daily which I always enjoy reading but never join in with because, as well as not understanding nuances, I can't watch, type, eat and repel cats at the same time!:o
I am, however, more than willing to dip into my meagre savings, get the pitchfork from the shed, and join any protest march designed to convince Blackburn that he's the worst thing to happen to Emmerdale since Anita Turner gifted the Dingles an Olympic-sized paddling pool!
Why doesn't Ashley run a youth club anymore ? Back in the day he ran one which had characters like Andy , Robert , Marc , Donna and Ollie . Remember when Ollie wrote the panto which was produced christmas 1999 ? Its one of Ashley's duties as a man of the clergy to run a youth group
The character of Ashley lacks so much credibility now he couldn't run a whelk stall and make it believable. Not that any of the village's feral youth would ever consider visiting a youth club. I'm afraid the innocence of those sort of activities are finished in Emmy, along with most of the seasonal festivals. This actually gives a false image of local folk traditions dying out - actually many rural areas still maintain the old ways passed down through the generations.
Before turning on Sandy, did Ashley ever show signs of talking to God about his problems? Asking for guidance or comfort? I really can't remember and seeing as he's a Vicar it seems like such an obvious part of the characters breakdown that's been missed.
Edit - It may have happened now I come to think of it. Maybe around that time he attacked Sandy in the church with a Bible.
We got to see that closeness, bond and connection Zak and Lisa have, which has been sorely missing since she started to walk round with her head up her own arse some time ago. It has simply not been believable that she would automatically think booze/other woman would be Zak's problem, without even talking to him about it. The REAL Lisa would have pleaded till she was blue in the face for Zak to open up, not act how she has.
Aaron and Adam just bore me rigid.
I like the fact they involved Megan in Zak's issues. It has, for me, added another side to the character, making her a bit less 1 dimensional, something ED has failed on repeatedly lately.
Tank Turner is a great character - He can even make Sean Of The Dead seem vaguely human!
The whole Nicola/Jimmy/Vasectomy storyline is getting to the point where i'm so fed up of them both and the story, i wanna headbutt the telly, which is a shame, as it has given Alex a bit more to do (finally i'm starting to warm to him, the glorified extra) and i love Nicola Wheeler.
As for the Sandy story, Ashley still needs to be tied the road and used as a speed bump, but i thought Charlotte Bellamy and Gemma Oaten were brilliant last night. For once, Laurel's reaction was spot on, especially when she almost mentioned the M word when ranting about Rachel not liking her and Rachel's refusal to bow down, continuing to stick up for Sandy has also added another element to her character.
Zak is rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack 9th april
It's more likely taking him away to get that filthy hat off his head, along with the rest of his clothes, and to give him good bath, haircut and shave:D

I bet it turns out to be just a panic attack. Symptoms very similar
smilies respectfully nicked to enable post to be posted!

Gosh, Lily - d'you think it'll take that long!
Well, better you than me - the very sight of the silly man makes me want to hurl things at the telly!

I didn't realise schizophrenia onset was age related so yes, it looks as if it's going down the dementia route. I thought schizophrenia mainly because of the conversations he appears to be having with someone who isn't there. My grandmother had dementia and I never saw that with her.

Thanks for that. I buy the soap mags but they are not so good as the websites you have quoted! It tells you a lot more that is going to happen.:D
Yes, thanks for the links, all it tells us unfortunately, that it's still misery, full steam ahead

At least it would put the storyline out of its misery.
Welcome JR How's Sue Ellen?

Who acted like a total prawn
His mum has gone gay
At least for today
And we all wish he'd never been born
Hey that's a Dingle way of remembering Shadrach! :D:D
Amen to that TJ. Brilliant!
Thank you for the welcome!
