Have I got this correct. If I'm allowed to eat 1300 calories per day ( being 5"2 and 12.5) and burn 500 off do I eat back them calories in order to lose weight?? giving me 1800 taken in or is it best not to and just stick with the 1300.

if your diet allows you 1300 calories, then that is what you should stick to.

If you need to meet 1300 calories and you burn 500 then yes you need to eat a total of 1800 cals.
Otherwise you are taking just 800 caloties a day which is just

I use that myfitnesspal and I burn at least 500 on machines at the gym.
I'm not sure how that works, do you tell it that you are burning 500 calories at the gym or not?
If you tell it that that's what you use, I'd guess it is giving you your total calories in order for you to lose weight.
If you haven't told it that you use 500 at the gym, I'd reckon it just means you need 1300 calories per day to simply function, breathe, see, etc. Meaning that you'd be able to have those 500 calories "spare", so yes you can eat them if you want.
That's a guess, doesn't myfitnesspal have instructions for this?
ETA: an instructor at the gym would be a good person to clarify this.
If you are around 35 year old female who is 5' 2" and weigh 175lb and live a sedentary lifestyle (little or no exercise) then you need 1,800 calories to maintain your current weight. If you carry on living the same sedentary lifestyle but consume 1,300 calories then you have a 'deficient' of 500 calories which you body will take from fat reserves. At that rate you will lose approximately 1lb per week (3,500 calories = 1lb of fat).
If you start doing exercise (say light exercise 3x a week) then your daily calorie allowance to stay at the same weight goes up to 2,100 calories per day. If you continue to eat 1,300 while exercising then you lose weight faster, approximately 1 1/2 lb per week.
If you go to the community bit on myfitnesspal you'll see that calories burned with exercise give you a defecit and you need to add them to the amount of calories you are allocated (if you're given 1,500 limit and do 500cals of exercise then you can eat 2,000cals otherwise you are burning more than you consume and apart from the possibility of this making you feel weak or shaky after working out it may also put your body into starvation mode).
Do you use the food and exercise diary? If so then that works it out for you. Myfitnesspal has helped me loads, I suggest you ask on there for advice
I tried a 1,000 calories a day and it was okay for a week. But on day 8 or so, I suddenly felt like I needed more calories, and gobbled down two big chocolate bars.

Hopefully that makes sense.
I do 4 times a week at gym and normally burn 500 calories off and I'm 45

Well in that case, you base rate is 1,500 calories. And activity adjustment is 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) giving you a daily allowance of 2325.
@ 1,300 calories per day intake you should be losing 2lb a week.
Thanks everyone. that's the thing though I changed what I eat as I hadn't been eating enough and I've gained 2 pound instead of losing it.
What i normally eat is 2 weetabix..Jacket potato with tuna & salad. fish and vegetables. sometimes I'll have a yoghurt and fruit or crisps in afternoon..

Its not just what you eat, its how much you eat.
But yes, you it does not sound like you are potentially eating enough.

I'm now on around 1,800 calories.

I got down to 8st using MFP, and no matter how many calories I burnt I always had to make sure I ate at least 1200 calories per day.
So if I was working out and buring 600 cals I would eat 1800... If I was doing nothing I'd stick to 1200cals
This website never advocates going under 1200 calories - if you do not use it correctly it will not work for you!

Gosh I thought that would be enough lol I'll add some kind of cracker in and see if it helps then.
