Let's not turn this thread into Samsung vs Apple. Leave that for other threads. This is solely for the SGS3 and what folks impressions of it are. Not which phone is better!
Back on topic. All sim-free prices for the phone are £500 for the 16GB model. Can't seem to find any selling the 32GB model, seems VF has exclusivity over it for one month?
The only things they could do was put in a faster processor and give it a better screen. Which they have done.
I am not won over by the design. Its not bad, but its not outstanding either. I am glad its got a replaceable battery, and a micro SD card slot. The screen is huge, but the body isnt much bigger than the S2 (5mm taller and 11.7mm wider). Its remarkable that they have managed to make it slimmer and lighter. The 2100mAh battery is a welcomed bonus. However we will have to see what that translate to in real life use.
For me, I am thinking of going for the S3 over the One X. However I am going to wait till its released and read some reviews, and have a play with it in real life before making a final decision.
For those that dont like touchwiz - use a different launcher, there are loads on the market. This isnt an apple phone, where you are stuck with the default launcher. Apex Laucnher and Nova Launcher being a couple of alternatives.
I'm not convinced that the pentile screen is better than Super AMOLED Plus if the Nexus is anything to go by, I will wait till I can see them for myself.

Whilst pentile may not be better, they are not worse. They also have a lower power consumption. I would doubt anyone to tell the difference between a AMOLED Plus and pentile screens, just by looking at them.

That's not true if you put the Nexus and S2 side by side the S2 is clearly the better screen IMO.
What would have been impressive is a AMOLED plus at 300 PPI, maybe next year...

Are you trying to tell me you would put the 4S and SGS2 side by side, and see no difference in screen quality?

Sorry but no...have you even used both those devices. The SGS2 is great, but Super AMOLED HD IS better imo. The resolution on the Galaxy Nexus is almost double the SGS2 and the contrast seems better...the SGS2 can sometimes look a bit discoloured....put it next to a Galaxy Nexus and there's virtually no competition.
That sub pixel is more than compensated by the increased resolution.
And remember it is only in certain situations that the sub pixel loss is noticed.
That Super AMOLED vibrancy of course is still there.
When the iPhone 5 comes out the same polarisation of opinion will take place not matter what.
Bizarre as it seems now I do recall the 3GS being claimed better than the Galaxy S.
Where does the SGS3 leave Apple then? The 4S wasn't even a match for the SGS3 and now they have fallen even further behind I just laugh at iPhones now as they are outclassed by so may Android devices. Still they sell to those who know no better lol.

Fandroid Alert!
On benchmarks the 4S was matched well to the S2. The S2 won on browser speed, the 4S won on graphics speed, Not to mention better battery life.
The biggest advantage with iOS is the amount of high quality games and apps, and the great support (my 2 year old iPhone 4 still gets updates, can the same be said for the Galaxy S)
Gormond, I love you apple loyalty but come on,,,the S2 is a better phone than the 4 or 4s, the s3 has left the apples eating dust...be honest about it. I'm sure the i5 will be fantastic but Apple have too much top quality competition to ever hold the reigns again.
Apple make fantastic phones no doubt, but there are better available. I love my S2 but will wait for a W8 phone that will match it or the S3 before I buy another phone. We should all be happy there is so much to pick from these days and we are not just stuck with one or two phones.
Interesting take (albeit negative) on the Samsung launch of SGS3 from SlashGear. Word of the day seems to be disappointment. Have to say though he makes some valid points. What does everyone else think?
I agree with the slashgear article. As a GS2 owner and fan i was so looking forward to the GS3. But, regardless of what's inside it, it just looks cheap and hideous. Why make a nasty plastic blue version? I don't understand Samsung designers.
Stuck now on what to do. ICS has mucked up my GS2, so what phone to get next? I'll be damned if Im gonna get an i phone. But Samsung have left me disappointed.

Eh...no. Not even close.
Battery life on the 4S is rubbish. And considering it took them absolutely months to fix the huge battery issue, there's little point in saying it beat the S2!! Its better now, but doesn't come close.

How has it mucked your S2 up? No one else is having issues...
Tried a factory reset which should have been done in the first place?
Also, apparently the back is made of polycarbonate.

Yes the design is a bit funky but, but look beyond that and feature wise it blows everything out the water and will do for a very long time. I doubt even the iphone 5 will top this one.

iOS and Windows phone are optimised, they don't need Quadcore to make them smooth.

Nothing to do with loyalty, the benchmarks speak for themselves. At gaming the 4S beats the S2 so it's rather subjective.
For the record I wasn't saying the 4S was better, I was just saying the S2 wasn't as great as people think.
Yes I'm in the same boat, I quite fancy going back to Nokia as IMO the Lumia is the best looking phone, all I need is for them to come out with a killer handset!

I don't worry about the cosmetic looks of a phone or what others think, its if it works well that is my prime motivator in purchasing a phone (most things actually).
Look at picture 22 - is that a Micro-SIM I see? I cannot find any reference to the SIM slot in it online, but it does look a bit smaller than your average SIM.
I hope it isn't as I wouldn't want to have to swap my SIM over...

You're not serious, surely.
No he isn't, that's just in your head, the 4S has nothing to do with his post.
He is comparing the S2 screen to the S3/Galaxy Nexus screen.
The S2 uses a screen with 3 sub pixels per pixel as apposed to 2 sub pixels per pixel of the S3 screen.
It gives you an impression of having a higher PPI without having to increase the concentration of sub pixels.

A bit like the sort of stuff inside of a car.
They all come in handy but you know you can do without them.

uhm...thats not why android phones need them either....

Phones can seem to meet such a high level of emotional need it often seems people only want to tell us what to think.
