Watched Madonna's performance of Shanti/Ashtangi and Ray of Light at some MTV Award thing...dunno which they're all the effing same to me! Anyway it was beautiful just to clarify...like I needed to

And i agree this performance is so very visceral and otherworldly...and Lenny Kravitz...DAYMN
Been a while since i have seen it too but always fantastic to rewatch!
Those were the days eh?
Agreed, I love the Ray of Light era soooo much now! Madonna looked and sounded just fantastic and listening to the album quite a lot in the past week I really do understand the message now and Madonna's spiritual awakening...still not mad of Mer Girl but the rest I adore
Yeah I see, I get confused between them all, if you had said this performance was from the AMAs or EMAs I would have been none the wiser haha and yeah just so beautiful again...the spirituality theme Madonna went through in this period was amazing and refreshing to look at now, wasn't mad of the black hair though preferred it when it was gold
What i loved with VMAs and grammy awards of this era was that the performances really did reflect the sound, style, direction for the album too...which is always what i love with Madonna anyway in applying it to her live performances.
But its that Spiritual Psychadelia/Apocalyptic Rave/Trance Ambience all brought together
SPeaking of transformations/hair colour etc.....i would LOVE for a dramatic reinvention in the near future
Absolutely loved it every era...new style, new look, new sound reinventions...and its all in neutral space for MDNA and even before it relatively with Hard Candy.
Yes I agree she really did, looked nowhere near 40
There's this one picture of her and Cher (and two other people) where she looks very young indeed.
Also the photo shoot with little Lourdes, I would have put her in her twenties. Some of those pictures look like what Lourdes looks like now, it's scary.

Yes to all of that I posted a pic from the People mag shoot with Lola a few days a ago she really did look fantastic...I'd normally say it's in comparison to Cher but not in this case

The problem is she's tried every look and hair colour except red for a brief time. And the red to me didn't look great on her. I like her present look and I don't mind her keeping some version of it. But I would like to see her try some different things musically. Maybe something less electronic and clubby.

The thing is when Madonna does Electronic and Club influenced material it very much kinda will be and has been compared to Confessions where....quite frankly i cannot name another record that has balanced Rave/Electronica/Synthpop/House/Alternative Dance AND Disco across an entire disc and work perfectly.
So for her to perhaps have a new spin on it....maybe a darker, harsher sound incorporating different sides of Dance music...just really progress into a new territory overall perhaps....Dub/Techno/guitar....Progressive maybe?? we will only see what we see when we see
For all the "ciriticisms" about Madonnas age....is it just me or is Madonna just generally Ageless...i mean her music is timeless...but Madonna ahsnt changed at all!

and Channel 4 are rocking for M promo arent they!
IMHO some of Madonnas early work (although The First Album not so much) sounds quite dated.

Maybe something still electronic, but more down tempo like trip hop? Not just get up and dance type of electronica.
I don't know if she would ever do it, but I would love something like Garbage does on their latest album where they mix guitars and electronics. I don't think she could ever completely remove electronics from her music but maybe less of a club/dj based sound which is just about fun and dancing.

Only to me True Blue sounds like it is IN the 80s....but still the messages within the music very much translates across time and eras. The massages, lyrics, productions and themes within each album transcends the eras they are recorded in...to me that is a triumph in itself

I sort of know what you mean. I know some people love them but I don't really listen to True Blue or Like a Virgin that much for that reason. Those records had a bubblegum pop sound not as dance/club oriented as the first record. But I think the stuff on LAP holds up great.
Yeah Josh...after the Madonna of sitcoms The Big Bang Theory but during the Kylie of sitcoms Two Broke Girls and coolio! I would really love to see them commenting on the two songs especially Like a Prayer
Comments
Thank you very much Josh.

They dont do em like they used to!

I got confused then as I always thought Madonna performed Nothing Really Matters at the VMAs but then remembered it was the Grammy awards.
