I've missed alot of good BBC drama over the last few years can someone recommend any? I'm not really interested in anything on ITV, C4 (though back mirror was brilliant) or sky.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Lol, no, just been a bit out of the loop.
What's that got to do with the price of bread? The poster is correct, there has been a dearth of dramy on tv generally for years now. I can understand it as far as commercial tv is concerned because they do stand or fall on their ratings, but that the BBC, which should not under any circumstances be chasing viewing figures, is churning out talent shows like there's no tomorrow instead of decent drama is beyond me.
There are Dickens adaptations - great, but why THREE versions of Great Expectations? The first was terrific, in costume (doesn't date) and in colour, so why spend a fortune on two more?
Also, what the hell happened to their excellent investigative programmes? We're now stuck with dreary news and political coverage with the same old faces being dragged out as spokespeople. Tedious beyond belief. Oh well, at least we don't have to watch the likes of Bernard bloody Ingham and Peter (from the dark side) Mandelson any more.
And of course, once you get the major channels trying to out-popularise each other, you're into a death-spiral of reality, celebrity and games shows.
Same fate: it's got to be wall-to-wall celebs and/or salacious nonsense or few will watch. More people will choose to watch a programme because it's fronted by a name they "like" than because of the subject matter of the programme.
Great Expectations- more from the wonderful Gillian.
Sherlock?
Accused?
Silk?
The Syndicate (bit trashy for the BBC I thought, but watchable)
Call the midwife- excellent
Birdsong- based on the book. I didn't enjoy it, but many did.
I never criticised the BBC.
Sherlock
Accused
Silk
The Hour
Birdsong
Call The Midwife
Exile
The Crimson Petal and the White
The Shadow Line
Page Eight
Stolen
Eric and Ernie
The Special Relationship
The Sinking of the Laconia
The Body Farm
The First Men in the Moon
Single Father
The Song of Lunch
Zen
Hattie
United
Any more?
I'm afraid you won't find any. You will have to stick to the theatre or cinema releases.
If you don't mind me asking, why do you cut out the commercial channels from the request?
Late 2012 / early 2013 apparently. 4 one-hour episodes again.
all the above plus Prisoner Wives
And:
Sherlock
Line Of Duty
Inside Men
Accused
Merlin
Silk
Call The Midwife
The Shadow Line
Eric and Ernie
Hattie
The BBC may have served up some duds - but it's still easier to find decent drama there than on ITV, with its uninspiring, derivative drama output, the bulk of which is carbon copies of other shows (US, BBC or from ITV's own archives).
Another good drama that confined to afternoons is The Indian Doctor, with Sanjeev Bhaskar, set in Wales in 1963.
Just a reflex action these days , though channel 4 can make some good stuff... sometimes.
Understood...I'm the same with documentaries, I wanted to record one on Tivo one last week, couldn't find it on BBC2, Channel 4, Channel 5, had to refer to the Radio Times to find it was on ITV, the thought of looking there didn't even occur to me!
Though on topic, some of the dramas now being advertised for the Autumn on BBC look promising.....might be a good time to jump back on board
Exile, a three part drama that aired last year was also very good.
However, I highly recommend 'Appropriate Adult'.
(and really, what is that apostrophe doing in the title of this thread????)
i think that 4 episodes is quite lame as it was for the second series, although I did enjoy the second series in spite of shoryness in length.
Well quite.
However, I'll put my pendantry* aside for a second to say:
Not sure how many years you're going back, but State of Play (2003) is available for under a fiver from a certain well known online outlet.
*Yes, I know.
