Movies that started a trend

Just been reading a book about the serial killer genre and that book more or less said that The Silence Of The Lambs started that whole 90s and beyond genre.
Following "Lambs" there were movies such as Copycat, Kiss The Girls, The Bone Collector etc.
Got me thinking about other movies that started a trend of that type of movie or kick-started a dying genre.
The first one springing to mind is Scream which famously brought not only horror back but created a sub-genre: Teen horror which brought us I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, Valentine.
Anymore trend-starting movies?

True, good example.
Jaws was followed by an assortment of big animals on the rampage movies
X-Men reinvented the Superhero genre.
Matrix aswell -- started that whole freeze frame moving around thing
The Bourne Identity - changed the way they had to make Bond films and other action films of this genre.
Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction - multiple stories intertwined
John Hughes films in the early 80s - changed teen films
I mean I know Commando was actually released a few years earlier but that seems to have a different feel to it...and certainly isn't as constricted.
It also led to the wonderful "Battle Beyond the Stars".
It certainly kick started the normal female turns psychopath trend looking at that list!
And what fun they've been...
Only one of that type I like is the original REC.
Wasn't that the one with 'John-boy' Walton?
Hand that Rocked the Craddle was an awesome film! It must be about 10 years since I've seen it and I must now go and find a copy somewhere. I wanted to yell at and B.slap the tv when at the end she's hitting the black guy with the crowbar. How dare she do that to him!
I would add to this discussion Alien with the reinvigoration of the alien cult. Alien films had died off (from what I can remember) pretty quickly after the original War of the Worlds and When the Earth Stood Still until that arrived and then all of a sudden The Thing, Critters, Predator, Cloverfield (found footage as sarahj said), and countless others.
Scream: completely re-invented the slasher genre in the 90s
SAW: Pretty much invented a whole new genre of Horror & brought heavy gore into mainstream cinema
