I know that there have been a few threads on this but I am currently in information overload mode! I'm due an upgrade and so undecided in which to get!
I thought I would just do a simple poll to get peoples views.

Both phones are outstanding.
If you're technically-minded and like to tinker, you would probably be happier with the S3.
If...er....you have already bought a lot of Apple apps you don't want to replace or, (DS reference) you want to plug a guitar into your phone occasionally, get an iphone.
I will add that its worth waiting for the LTE/4g version of the S3; out imminently.
+1.
You can customise the S3 so much more.
Can have different keyboards (like Swype, Slide IT etc and SwiftKey).
Swap batteries.
Notification LED on front (very useful).
Could go on and on but don't have the time.
Also can get 64gb SD card for £40 so can have a 80gb phone (128gb if you go for the 64gb version of the S3).
It's also better for web browsing due to the larger screen (and has Google Maps )
Never understood the swap batteries argument. So you carry a spare battery to extend the working day. On an Iphone you get a charger pack - about the same size as a battery and does exactly the same thing,
However. The notification LED is a plus. I wish the iPhone had one.
A lot of creedence is put on Google Maps - if you want them - they're available for the iPhone as well.
However I've not used them in 4 years - and I suspect I won't use Apple's offering either,
I have TomTom on the phone - much more practical than either (at the moment)
The other big advantage is that you can replace the battery entirely when it stops holding charge as well, increasing the lifetime of the phone.
In fairness, that can be done at an Apple store as well, though not, perhaps, as conveniently.
That said, most of the people on here will not have phones of particularly ancient origin.
Apart from my wife, whose iPhone of nearly five years old still holds a charge fine.
...and if you don't have an Apple store nearby?
Its quite expensive to get a new battery fitted through apple.
Why are you debating the merits of a removable battery it is clearly better to have the option
The ability to swap out a battery during the day if required cannot be matched by a charging pack in any way. And batteries do suffer over time and can be replaced for next to nothing when the time comes unlike iphone, one x.
How you can possibly argue this because you can't do it is odd, its like saying I'd rather not have an sd slot.
The SD card and the battery life on the Samsung help swing it for me too. I'll look into LTE version too. Thanks everyone.
If I had to choose I would go for the HTC One X+ but I will probably wait and see what Nexus devices are released this year.
I carry a spare battery in the car.
Beats having to have a battery pack plugged into it for ages to use or recharge.
Smartstay (screen knows when you are looking at it so it does not turn off and don't have to keep tapping it to keep it on).
Also can set the phone to vibrate if you have any new messages or updates when you pick it up.
Can set phone up as a wireless hot spot (must admit I don't know if the iphone has this now though). Helped a great deal when my mate was trying to setup his iphone 5 when on a campsite with no free wifi.
I was told this does not work very well, and definitely not as advertised.
Yeah, iphone can do this too. Amazingly Apple haven't held the feature back from older devices!
It always seems to work ok for me (as long as you are not in total darkness).
That's cool as it's quite useful sometimes.
I use it all the time, its not S3 specific though, its on all andriods.
I already have an iPhone and a bunch of apps. I don't want to have to buy everything all over again so the decision is already made - it's going to be another iPhone.
I prefer the look, feel and size of the iPhone 5 over the S3. The S3 is too big and too plasticy, although less expensive so I'd certainly take it into consideration if buying my first smartphone.
I also have a Nexus 7 and prefer plain vanilla Android to the customised version on my wife's Samsung Galaxy Ace. If I were going to buy an Android phone I'd almost certainly go for a Nexus version over an S3.
