Don't have Sky anymore so had to obtain S3 E1 by other means . Great start to the season, looks like the group have got more organised over the winter in what they do and how they do it.
Loved the riot control walkers, scary and funny at the same time, can't believe Hershal got bitten I love him, he's such a good and valued member of the group.
Interesting that we have got some new characters in the form of prision inmates. Will they want to do away with Rick due to his background ? When the inmate said "Holy shit" at the end, who was that directed to ?
Was it Daryl ?
Was it Rick ? (Rick could have put this man away)
Was it just a general "Holy Shit" suriviors !?

Can't wait for next week.
I think it was a general "holy shit" at seeing survivors then seeing one of afore mentioned survivors chopping another survivors leg off.
The group still seems to be quite dumb though. They have one doctor and they take him on a Zombie recon-tour? Really? When you have a chick that's about to give birth. Maybe leave him back in cell block A. I know the writers need to create tension and so forth but they ought to give some of their characters a higher IQ.

That was one thing that bugged me a bit. At the very end of Season 2 when the the camera moved up before cutting to the credits it seemed to show that the prison wasn't too far away from where they currently were, but are we supposed to believe that they've been wandering around all winter and have only just found the prison now?
I'm also disappointed that they skipped winter, it could have been interesting seeing them cope with the cold/snow conditions.

True. I have to agree with this. Good post, Aviller.

The show is written in the winter/spring so it can be filmed in the summer and put on TV in the fall. How are they supposed to show "winter" when they are filming in 100 degree heat? Skipping winter in the show was just a matter of being practical.

I feel exactly the same, it was literally over the hill through the trees. Not a huge issue but it did niggle at me when watching it.

Didn't stop Christopher Nolan from covering streets with fake snow in the middle of summer as they filmed the last hour or so of The Dark Knight Rises (i know that film had a huge budget that TWD could only dream of, but i'm sure fake snow wouldn't cost that much). Not to mention that they could just use sets or move the location of the production like any other series to film somewhere colder...it's not like they couldn't have done that considering that all of the locations of this season are new.
Just feels like a missed opportunity to me, especially since i'm sure winter weather featured in the comics.

The group didnt have the benefit of a camera rising above the tree line so they didnt know there was a prison just over the road, who knows what way they went lol

I get the feeling they stayed in the general area and didn't exactly trek across country. But the way season 2 ended, you would expect them to discover the prison sooner.
I don't know why people make such a big thing about the closing shot of series two (the prison in the distance). I only ever saw that as a teaser for what lay ahead in series three - I didn't for one moment think 'oooh - the prison's only a mile or two away'.
It seemed to me that Rick and his crew had spent most of the winter on the run from various hordes of walkers, at least that's what him and Daryl seemed to be saying when they got the map out near the start of the episode.
If that was the case then they would be trying to get as far away from the walkers as possible without thinking "Oh there might be a prison right around the corner which will serve as a handy base"
Wow! Quite a brilliant first episode. Gutted that Herschel is now going to become one of the walking dead, chopping off his leg I don't think will kill the infection and I think it will only be a matter of time before the group find that out!
Loving gun-totting Carl. Seems so long ago that he was such a whinging little kid. Laurie, is still annoying, that pregnancy bump looked so bad it actually looked like she was holding it up in case it fell down.
I wonder what is up with Andrea?
Missing Dale even after one episode. Shane, not so much, I think after everything the character had done that was his time to go.
T-Dog was the second character you saw and he actually seemed to be more useful, maybe he will serve a bigger purpose this season.
Loved Darryl's comment about 'the owl not really hitting the spot' when they were talking about food.
Looking forward to Merle's return and more of Michonne, I don't know if I would be able to keep my boyfriend and best friend alive in that state, but she must have her reasons.
Glenn, looking much more confident too, loving his relationship with Maggie. And what about Maggie, she seemed like an awesome killing machine.
First episode of season 3 was amazing, I'd give it 10/10. Still loving Rick and Daryl. Maggie is a great addition to the characters too, she can fight with the best of them!
I like that they missed out a few months. It also explains how Carl has grown up quite a but and his voice is starting to break! Otherwise they'd have to keep replacing the actor.
Still hating Lori and glad that Rick is giving her the cold shoulder. I really hope she is killed off this season. I have never liked her.

This was the only thing I could find to complain about in this opening episode!! I did think it was stupid to take an older man who is extreamly valuable onto a blind outing. I do suspect he's not dead and buried though...I hope not I really like his character and think he brings a lot.
Can't wait for the prison situation to fully come to light.

I took the prision at the end of S2 as, look how close the group is to this Pirsion and look what's coming in S3.
I saw it and was thinking that S3 would pick up the morning after they camp out in the open and they discover the pirsion.
I always thought that when you were bitten by a zombie that was it and it didn't matter if you chopped off the limb or arm that had been munched on? The infection was already in your bloodstream
i would like to let a stack to build up, and have a Walking Dead marathon, but there's no way l could wait for that to happen:D
This is what we do for new seasons, for example we did it with Eureka, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time, just waiting for the last episode of Revenge, stacking True Blood at the moment, don't know why we started watching Walking Dead - should have been stronger.
Might save Ep1 and start stacking them, it's so much better watching them in one go over a few nights.
Great opener to the new season and clearly there's been a passage of time since the last ep of season 2. I like how the group has become a unit and how well they functioned together as a zombie killing machine. Great scene when 5 of them went as a group into the prison yard killing everything in their sight while the rest stayed behind distracting the zombies. Everyone has a role and knows how to kill and what to do. Even Carl who's nowhere near as annoying as he used to be! Still noticed T-Dog didn't say much! Interesting that Rick and Lori aren't getting along, i'm guessing Rick killing Shane has something to do with that.
Didn't expect Hershel to come a cropper at the end, really hope he doesn't die. All in all great thrills, great spills and lots of zomblie blood, guts and gore. This could be the best season yet! One thing though not a fan of the new opening titles, much preferred the original.

MId season breaks are just somethinG you have to accept to see showS just after the US.
Its the age old argument, do you want to see the show early and accept breaks or wait 6 months and watch it all in one go.
I know what I prefer and thats to see it ASAP.

Also what about the helicopter that was on s2? it just disappeared...i expect some flashbacks to show what happened during the winter

Really? Hope so but my understanding:
Maybe I am just watching too many zombie films?
