Its sad to see that the person who left first basically went back to his old life of baking at home. The people who left around the middle got to do some local baking or teach baking. The winners got to be celebrities.
I laughed when she said about how she watched it afterwards and saw her crying and thought she looked a bit mad. I thought she's obviously been reading the forums, although the actual words used was Psycho I believe.
I watched Paul make the 8 plait loaf at the Bolton Food Festival last month. He made it look dead easy! I'm going to have a go myself this coming weekend
I was thinking about making one this morning. I might just do a bloomer though
I had an idea that 8 pieces of string would be a good way of practising - they won't stick together if you get it wrong either!
I must try the 8 plait loaf. Last year I made a few of the recipes, which Mr Q loved. But this time, with Mr Q not around to help and guide, me I feel sad. I love nothing more on a Saturday when daughter is out with her friends and I have the place to myself and listen to a podcast and bake.
I normally make all my bread in tins because I've never had success with things like bloomers - they just spread out and don't rise upwards. I made one today using Paul's 'roll and pull up tight' method he used the other day, rather than my usual 'make a rough shape and tuck the ends under' method (which is why it usually spreads out as the tucked under ends aren't held in properly). I'm happy to report that it rose perfectly today
I really must tackle the 8 strand loaf one day. That would really impress my family
I seem to remember this pud being described as the Nation's favourite, or something like that...I prefer a good old crumble!
definitely agree on the crumble issue and yes it was !Nation's Favourite" i'd never heard of it but my mum had but she's in her 70s so maybe it's a generational thing?
i remember being on the isle of wight as a small child and there was a doughnut maker where you watched them being made and ate them warm - oh delicious!
