Loads of the characters that Mark interacted with seem to have been omitted from this series.
No Sophie, apparently no more Johnson and Gerrards dead!
I know Wikipedia is hardly the most accurate place but there seems to be an indication that there will be no Big Suze and that awful Zahra character will return!

Robert Webb said on twitter that Big Suze wont be in this series because the actress that plays her is too busy on Two and A Half Men.
Oh wow, thank you for this! I had no idea they were all on there - just thought it might have been the more recent ones.
Watched one from s2 today, where Mark goes to Dartmouth to essentially stalk the girl at uni. "Do a Columbo....do a Columbo!" And Peter Capaldi! Had totally forgotten about all that - quality.
I thought this was a good start to the new series - Dobby was maybe a little more annoying than usual, but I still like her.

It seems this series is going to concentrate on Mark and Dobby being together much like the early series were about Mark and Sophie.
When they had the really funny scene with Gerrard ill in bed in this episode i thought they were setting it up for Gerrard to be a thorn in Marks side for the rest of the series. Thought he was going to be like Jeff was in the earlier series, so it was a shock that they then went and killed him off.
Although i have seen some descriptions of the next 2 episodes and it seems that Dobby's ex from the last series will be making a re-appearance.
I thought the killing off of Gerrard was as big a shock as the beginning of Series 6 when they got rid of JLB.

They should get Mark a new job in a new office and start it again like series one. The recession must have evened out by now.
Hmm. I liked it but didn't love it but I haven't enjoyed the last few series as much as the first 1-3 anyway. Not massively keen on Dobbie anymore, I think Peep Show just works better when the secondary characters stay that - as soon as they start to become part of Mark / Jeremy's world I don't think it works so well. Same thing happened with Sophie, I loved her initially but as soon as her and Mark got together she became different, almost like they weren't sure what to do with her character.
Still, a less-than-average Peep Show is still much better than most other things on the tele so I'll still be tuning in each week.
Love Peep Show.
However I do agree on all points you've made. The eulogies were hilarious, but i agree with someone else who said that they had enough action here for 2-3 episodes, did feel a bit rushed putting all into one.

You have to remember though that everything we see in Peep Show is from Mark and Jeremy's POV which is why we hear their inner thoughts.
In the early series Mark thinks Sophie is great but as soon as he realises that he doesn't want to be with her we see the other side of her where she is a bit of a misery to say the least.
This is one of my favourite comedies. So glad it is back. Was shocked Gerrard died. Very dark first episode but a shame about Johnson only being in this episode though.

What a waste

Hope it's as good as last weeks!
I've been there, in my student days, didn't know what it was called though.
and buggered in the same episode too
