IE9 / IE10 is very impressive
BBC news live tile
I was replying to a post that was asking why apps were important, I wasn't trying to prove any point about Android V Windows. I like my Android, but I liked my Symbian phone I had before that too. I'm open minded as to what my next phone will be, although I'm honest enough to admit it is likely to be another Android as I think they offer the best overall package at the moment.
But as you felt the need to defend Windows...
Is there a free SatNav for HTC WP8 phones, or is this only on Nokia?
Is the Yahoo built in mail able to search the whole mailbox on the server, or is it more like a POP3 client, downloading messages to the phone?
IE9/IE10 I'm sure are good, but as far as I know, only Dolphin and Firefox support Flash within web pages. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Got bored with Iphones, one after the other and not much innovation. Lumia 920 being delivered Tomorrow.
Innovation, what else can you do to a phone?
It makes calls, it receives calls, you can send and receive text message, you can access the net, run some apps, listen to music, watch videos, take video and pictures.
The only thing they can advance at now is CPU power, battery life and screen quality and size. surly innovation is the problem with all mobile phones now?

Maybe Apple don't think it got much use, it certainly have not done any harm to their sales. i am sure if NFc have any real use Apple will start sticking it into their phones.
Maybe Apple is waiting for something like this . A single chip that can do many things.
4G
Not really innovation, just a faster way of doing something. again apple could be waiting for it to catch on.
they are not stupid, they know people will buy their phones and when a new one comes out with 4G, these people will buy again.
Wireless charging
Too slow. i seen previews of the Windows phone wireless charging and on most of them they was saying that it is slower way of charging.
anyway, very few phones got wireless charging..
Flexible screens
But not available on any mobile phone and to be honest, i can't see the point.
Projectors
Been done and failed, technology is still not there.
all recent innovations or ideas 'coming soon' ..... im sure there is plenty of innavation to come
whether its stuff you want or need is debatable .... but its still innovation ....
Strange really, when i had my first mobile phone many years ago, it was pretty large, ok not as large as the first ones, but still large. I thought at that time that mobile phones would get smaller, never dreamed that a mobile would become a mini computer. but now they are getting larger again.
I have said many times, the worse thing I did was getting a mobile phone to start with, but I was youngish and it was a new thing. If i knew then what I know now, I would never have had a mobile phone or a computer for that matter.

The two main ones I'd like are
1. eInk screens - massive battery savers and you can see better outside, just need to get the refresh rate high enough or allow them to flick to OLED display
2. Wireless charging (might be negated if eInk or some other tech extends the life signficantly). Little point in having a smart phone when you've to treat it like a 3310 to get through the day!
Aside from that it's hard to see where the next innovation will come from. Things like 4G are simply evolution - I've seen my phones go from GSM to GPRS, to Edge, to 3G, to HSPDA, to HSPDA+, and now LTE. They are already at the stage where plugging a TV and Keyboard into it gives you more or less a full PC experience!

So you have dismissed the innovations above because either:
(1) Apple havent implemented them
(2) you dont think you need them
(3) the tech isnt good enough yet
the point of innovation is there has to be a starting point. In 15 years id bet that flexible screens and projectors are the norm, in the same way when colour screens were first put onto phones they were pretty poor but are now standard.
There will always be new innovations. The ones I have mentionned are either available now or 'coming soon'. The coolest innovations are the ones that we cant even think of yet
Its a very exciting era to be a tech lover....... I'd have hated to have been born in Tudor times as tech was pretty rubbish

A decent battery life?
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't innovation!

AJ2001 put that he/she was bored with Iphones as there was not much innovation, I just put my idea why apple have done what they have done with the Iphone. apple like other phone producers will only put into their phones what people will use, the more tech they stick into their phones the higher the price will be.
What is the point in flexible screens on a mobile phone? Projectors I can kind of see the point, but battery life got to get a lot better.
It is no good just sticking stuff onto a mobile phone for the fun of it.

You are right, but a lot will fail as there will be no use for them. what happened to the you will be wearing your phone idea for instance?

I doubt it was rubbish for tudor times.
i used to love tech when I was younger, but as I get older, feel like I want to push it all away. Too much tech with too many ways of keeping tabs on us.
one day it may happen, where I say stuff it and go back to a normal phone only and even get rid of the internet.

I agree a lot will fail  im sure there is lots of tech that was the 'next big thing' that has sunk without a trace (the C5 springs to mind) !!
flexible screens i see as being huge.... a phone that wraps round your wrist or opens up to flat sounds great - or foldable/rollable screens to keep units small ?
more tech doesnt always mean higher prices - the Nexus 7 has way more tech/spec than the iPad mini but which one is cheaper ?

I think the C5 was years ahead of its time.
Release it now and it will do a lot better (especially in London).

Last time i checked AJ2001 was a HE
Let me explain.. Since the IP4, we had the 4S version and the 5. Yes, there are improvements on the hardware (as you'd expect from any manufacturer), but that's it. From an user experience perspective the changes are minimal. Siri is a 5 second pub trick and I'm not even spending any time writing about own goals like the Apple maps. My Ipad still on 5.1.1 for a reason. So yes, I'm bored with Apple.
Nokia provides a different experience. Tried the Lumia 920 in store and absolutely loved the user interface, the live and adjustable tiles, Nokia drive, dying to try the X box integration and the camera is fab, with all it's tricks.
But that's my opinion, which I am entitled to...right?

Sorry, no. Only noise747's opinion is valid. And it will be repeated in every thread ad nauseam until the rest of us learn that.
