Who, like Alan Turing, actually gave the world something useful and important, are our Gay friends concentrating on the Arts too much and not pulling their weight ?

Just a guess, but maybe in the past only gays in the arts felt brave enough to come out.
You mention Alan Turing. Look at the way he was treated. Hes a perfect example of why they have kept their heads below the parapet.
If Isambard Kingdom Brunell had been a friend of Dorothy I'm sure he wouldn't have been shouting it from the roof tops.

Answer me two questions. What percentage of entertainers are gay? What percentage of scientists are gay?

There's an interesting study here that documents why gays working in engineering rarely come out.

Basically it's a homophobic environment so they don't usually come out.

I would argue that in most professions, your sexuality is irrelevant. It's only when you dabble with the world of celebrity, that people think it's important that you talk about your love life and so your sexuality becomes documented.

...because the arts are somehow not important?

C'mon, dude. The TV reception under that bridge is probably patchy. You must READ occasionally, right?

Remeber what happened to Alan Turing exactly?

Gay people before this era had to live in the closet.

Currently their are thousands of scientist who have contributed to the modern era who most people have no idea about partly because we are obsessed with the entertainment industry.
