It needs a bit of set-up in terms of making the relevant drives / folders on your pc shareable and the LAN settings in the app...but if I can do it I'm sure you can.
I had a lot of problems with Skifta. Now I use BubbleUPnP, the interface isn't as pretty as Skifta but I find it much more robust.
probably because its transcoding the video
No, I don't think it's that. They are H.264/AAC MP4 files which play natively.

I would recommend downloading a couple to try as they do a similar job, but the interfaces used are a personal preference. I have a PS3 so dont use Skifta as its not as intuitive as others (but still very good).
I suspect the application is still transcoding to change resolution and I suspect they are not being passed over as MP4. Check you CPU level on your PC when you are playing back on the mobile device.

Have you done a speed test from your Nexus to see what actual Wifi bandwidth you are getting?
From my setup, I can stream SD video fine throughout the house but HD tends to be a little jumpy in places so I don't bother.
However, my favourite use of my Nexus is as a remote control for streaming from a NAS drive to a WD Live box connected to the TV via Homeplugs. HD works fine in this case.
OK, I did this last night. CPU is as low as 2%. I have Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz.
I'm using an iPod touch. Speed test is 13Mbps down.
Ah - so your "130 Mbps" in your original post was a typo? I thought it sounded fast!
Personally, I would expect a 13 Mbps link to struggle with a HD stream without any breakups.
No, sorry. 13Mbps is the speedtest result from the Internet to my iPod.
The internal wireless network (PC / router / iPod) should operate around 130Mbps (802.11n) but realistically it will be 54Mbps as in 802.11g.
I can fully stream 1080p videos from my laptop to my iPod now I've altered the SMB setting whereas before it would buffer. Heck, there is even enough juice to buffer ahead now!
Have you had a look at qloud ?
