Interesting choice for talkSPORT over the next 2 weeks, next Wednesday there's Chelsea v Southampton in the PL and FA Cup replays and the following week Arsenal v West Ham in the PL will clash with the 2nd leg of Swansea v Chelsea. I'd guess they will go with PL each time.

talkSPORT.co.uk's live commentary schedule has been updated since last night, with their remaining live games for January reading:
Capital One Cup, Tuesday 8 - Bradford v Aston Villa (7.45pm)
Capital One Cup, Wednesday 9 - Chelsea v Swansea (7.45pm)
Premier League, Sunday 13 - Manchester United v Liverpool (1.30pm)
    FA Cup, Tuesday 15 - Blackpool v Fulham (7.45pm)
FA Cup, Wednesday 16 - Manchester United v West Ham (7.45pm)
Premier League, Saturday 19 - West Brom v Aston Villa (5.30pm)
    Premier League, Sunday 20 - Chelsea v Arsenal (1.30pm)
Capital One Cup, Tuesday 22 - Aston Villa v Bradford (7.45pm)
Capital One Cup, Wednesday 23 - Swansea v Chelsea (7.45pm)
Premier League, Wednesday 30 - Game TBC

Before I read that I was certain that they'd go with the Swansea City v Chelsea semi-final second leg, presuming it doesn’t look over as a contest after the first leg, given how during the Chelsea quarter-final they were advertising that they would be doing live commentary on all five remaining League Cup games. I don't think you can criticise them for prioritising a cup semi-final ahead of a routine league game. Given the situation, perhaps they could split their platforms that night and put Arsenal v West Ham on DAB/online, but then they would be using up one of their 64 (or 67 should they be allowed to use the three games left over from last season) live Premier League matches when doing so wouldn't be necessary as they are already doing a non-PL commentary on AM/DAB.

I think there's a stronger argument for them to do Chelsea v Southampton ahead of Manchester United v West Ham next Wednesday considering that the latter will be on ITV1 as well as Radio 5 Live, but then I guess it comes down to the old ITV reasoning that Manchester United bring in a larger audience than any other team and thus it is better for a commercial enterprise to go with the Red Devils.

Nigel Adderley's having a good run at the moment. Is he 2nd to Matterface in number of commentaries this season?

I've had a look at the stats I've been keeping and have totted up this season's commentary figures so far, which I've updated to include both tonight's game and tomorrow's Chelsea v Swansea City semi-final first leg which it has been advertised that Sam Matterface and Ray Parlour will be commentating on.

The commentary figures are: Sam Matterface (39 live games), Nigel Pearson (7), John Roder (7), Nigel Adderley (6) and Ian Danter (2).

In terms of co-commentators, they are: Stan Collymore (33), Alvin Martin (10), Ray Parlour (8), Andy Gray (5), Ray Houghton (4) and Michael Gray (1), with Bobby Gould having provided on-site in-game analysis on the MK Dons v AFC Wimbledon match.

Those figures don't include talkSPORT Live, which has used Danter and 20 other commentators and Martin, Gould and 10 other co-commentators during the first half of the season.

It looks as they though there may be a minimum of six FA Cup Fourth Round commentaries on talkSPORT, while there may be as many as seven on BBC Radio 5 Live. The TV games have been selected and Aston Villa's visit to Milllwall has been moved to Friday night (although isn't a TV pick):

    Friday 25th January - Millwall v Aston Villa (19:45)
Saturday 26th January - Crystal Palace or Stoke v Manchester City (12:45)
Saturday 26th January - West Ham or Manchester United v Blackpool or Fulham (17:30)
Sunday 27th January - Southend or Brentford v Chelsea (12:00)
Sunday 27th January - Leeds or Birmingham v Tottenham (14:00)
    Sunday 27th January - Oldham v Liverpool (16:00)

I'd imagine that both stations will do ALL of those games, while 5 Live are likely to do a 15:00 kick-off on the Saturday leaving talkSPORT do to their 'around the grounds' format.

    Wednesday 9th January - talkSPORT

Georgie Bingham presenting Kick Off: Capital One Cup Special from Stamford Bridge alongside Ray Parlour

Capital One Cup Semi-Final First Leg
Chelsea v Swansea City - Sam Matterface and Ray Parlour (7.45pm commentary), with Ian Abrahams at pitchside and James Dodd producing

talkSPORT are using a pitchside reporter this evening, having gone without one during their last three commentary games. I expect the reason for their absence on those fixtures had everything to do with all three taking place at fourth and fifth tier grounds (with Bradford not even having enough room for Free Radio 80s in their press box last night!)

At least there's a bit of choice on national radio.

Meanwhile, it appears talkSPORT's commentator for Blackpool v Fulham on Tuesday will be John Roder.

With the different KO times on Weds, there can be fairly lengthy periods of commentary at OT anyway

Wednesday 9th January - talkSPORT Live

Capital One Cup Semi-Final First Leg
Chelsea v Swansea City - Tom Rennie and Kevin Watson

During his commentary last night, Sam Matterface mentioned that he and Ray Parlour will be commentating on the second leg of the Swansea City v Chelsea tie while Nigel Adderley (presumably with Alvin Martin) will be doing the Aston Villa v Bradford City second leg.

It'll be interesting to find out who commentates on the League Cup Final for talkSPORT. Nigel Pearson has commentated on five of the past six finals for talkSPORT (Sam Matterface did the 2011 final) with Stan Collymore co-commentating on the last four finals for them, but neither of them have been involved in the station's commentaries on this season's competition. Yet the live commentaries have been divided between Matterface, Adderley, John Roder and Ian Danter with Martin (who was their League Cup Final co-commentator prior to Collymore's arrival) and Parlour sharing co-commentary berths, so there doesn't appear to be a first choice duo on League Cup games.

As Sam and Stan are likely to commentate on the FA Cup Final, it would be nice if a different commentary team got to do the League Cup Final. Could Nigel Pearson still be in pole position to do the League Cup Final? On domestic fixtures he appears to be talkSPORT's second most prominent commentator and was chosen to commentate on the Sweden v England friendly from Stockholm in Sam's absence, so I wouldn't rule out this possibility.

I was listening in the car to 95.5FM around 9pm and thought it strange that commentary was on that frequency, but a quick scan revealed the commentary was on all frequencies (well 855AM, 95.5 and 103.9FM so I presume all frequencies).

I am assuming then that when the stations opt out of 7-10pm networking for sport, they are fully opting out rather than broadcasting the england network show on one or more frequency.

Does anyone know what Radio Lancashire have done with the Friday night Non League Hour that has recently been 7-8pm? Presumed it would be sometime 6-7pm but wasn't - although Lancs opted out of network again tonight to do Wolves v Blackburn, so might not have been a normal 6-7 slot.

They don't do it as a matter of course, I think they only put Wolves commentaries on 1152AM and DAB in Birmingham when they are the only one of their teams playing either in the Saturday early timeslot or on certain midweek evenings. I believe their Black Country and Shropshire platforms take commentary on Aston Villa and Birmingham games in those same circumstances, with West Bromwich Albion being covered in all three regions anyway.

Alistair Bruce-Ball was BBC Radio 5 Live's reporter at Wolverhampton Wanderers v Blackburn Rovers last night.
